ESP Light - Random Always On
Symptom - ESP Light will appear on cannot be switched off without restarting the engine. Will appear under either light or hard braking.
Solution - Brake pedal switch. Remove lower driver side panel with Torx screwdriver. Remove air ducting and reach up. Undo electrical clip and twist the switch. Install switch and reverse the stripdown. |
Would a fault code show up in VCDS fro this?
Thanks |
Maybe... Are you getting those symptons?
One way to test may be to have someone at the back of the car, and see how much pressure on the pedal it takes to pop the brake lights on. |
....or back it up close to a wall when it's dark and press the brake light
|
Or use a mate you don't like, and keep it in reverse :)

I don't think my issue is related to the brake switch now, the ESP light seems to be randomly coming on.
I just had it scanned, and is showing 'brake pressure sensor - electrical fault in circuit' |
For what it costs to replace it I would just do it with a new item.
That fixed mine as it randomly came on. |

Just replaced mine as I had on occasion the random warning light on the dash for the ESP.
The one pulled out from the D3 was brown and part number 3B0 945 511, plus it had a shorter plunger on than the new one purchased. I bought for £10 from eBay a Variant2 Kerr Nelson Brake Light Switch. The plunger and travel was a lot longer which confused me at first as I thought hello its the wrong part. Reading up its a later design, all fitted and the brake lights work fine and no ESP light anymore. |

ESP comes on after 4 mins
My 3.0tdi has a problem with the ESP.
It will come on after 4 minutes of the engine running. It doen't matter if the car is moving or not. My problem now is that my usual Garage is 90 miles away so can't get it scanned fully, what with this lock down  |
Jake, my 4.2 tdi has started that exact same thing!! Let me know if you get to the bottom of it matey +++
