For Sale: D2 4.2 S8

6 Attachment(s)
Two owners D2 4.2 S8, 160,407 miles. MOT till 25-OCT-2020.

The good: It has been my daily driver for 19 years. Always professionally maintained. It is still a beautiful drive.

Why am I selling?: I am getting older faster than the car is. I need to own at least one D3 V10 while I can still enjoy driving such a beast. (You might see it lurking behind the D2 in the photos)

The bad: Scratched passenger side rear wing, radio is dead, rear tyres are the only unfixed advisories on the last MOT. Neither external mirror retracts.

The ugly: It is Cat C registered. Insurer wrote it off after a tiny low speed bingle, quoting £5000 repair. I bought the wreck and it was back on the road with £150 of front mudguard and suspension arm from Prestige.

Repair history: I fairly recently (2017) had the wheels powder coated and I changed the mottled windscreen for a much nicer one from Prestige about the same time.
The beast from the East storm awarded me a new boot lid, one of the mirrors and some light panel work. Much longer ago I needed a gearbox rebuild, and a ECU repair after it flooded with aircon condensate.

Price: £1000 to forum readers, as a gesture of thanks to how helpful the forum and its sponsors have been. I know it is silly, but I rather like the idea of it finding a good home.

This does not seem to be going anywhere. I have to be out of the country for 5 weeks starting soon. I would like to hear even vague expressions of interest. It will have to go on e-bay or be scrapped when I get back. Please get in touch.

I'm finally back home. I spent the best part of the £1000 I am asking on another ticket, because I was going nowhere for months on the return half of my first one. So this is now last chance saloon for owning this lovely machine for chump change.

That car needs to stay here. Are you sure you do not want to clock up the 20 years of ownership first??

And I admire your approach to passing it on to a loving home. That car still has much love to give

ElliottRo 19th February 2020 02:53 PM

You are right.

I'll be staying here though. Trying to get my head round the MMI on the D3. And reading the amazing advice on here! don't think Prestige are going to lose a customer!

A friend has been looking for a PF S8 for a while so I have let him know about this one +++ It does need to stay in the family since there are so few left :)

David's8 19th February 2020 03:55 PM

Just looking "for a friend" eh, MJ. ;)

If ever there was a reason to unfriend someone, it's that!

A bloke up the road was after an S4 Cabriolet for ages, ended up getting a 645ci. Had it 3 months, traded it in for an S4 Cabriolet saying the beemer was the dullest, most boring car he's ever had.

You can't really do that to your children though, all 3 of mine have gone to the dark side, though only one runs on Satan's fuel....

You have been here longer than me. What else should I put in my ad to make it more interesting? Is it the done thing to post the build sticker f'rinstance? Or a video of me blasting up the hill from the village? Nah, it would be just clearing its throat before I'd be setting off the cameras.

Thanks Elliot for arranging to deliver this to me - I know it was a good excuse to give your D3 a 200 + mile run too!

Just had it valeted, I’m so chuffed with it - it drives like it’s done half the miles, engine is so so smooth, no knocks, suspension feels tight, like I said, chuffed. +++

Yes, long overdue. Hope you’re well.

Welcome back Amar. Good to see you back in an '8 - maybe we'll see you at our (rescheduled) annual meet this year ;)

Welcome back Amar!

briang9 26th May 2020 09:55 AM

Nice to see you back in a D2+++

ElliottRo 26th May 2020 03:47 PM

It looks like one of my criteria has been met, judging by the welcome back flood. It has found a good home.

It certainly has! It was meant to be :D
I'll add my welcome back too Amar although I know you've been quietly lurking when you can!

RICKY D 26th May 2020 04:35 PM

That looks to be a very good purchase. Congratulations +++

It’s such a lovely car, I’m really shocked at how mechanically sound it is. It really has no right to be for a D2 or any car of this age and mileage. The air con blows ice cold too, no warning lights, super-smooth changes on the box.

I’m going to keep it totally original, I ordered the Audi rings & S8 Badge (staff rates working for the brand will come in useful once again) - the older style one is discontinued so they’ve got me a facelift one. I’ll probably replace with a pre-facelift at some point but for now I just need to get it badged up again and the scratch sorted, no mods being planned at all, maybe brighter headlight bulbs (not HID or anything with a blue tint), I love the originality of it and intend to keep it that way right down to the older PF S8 badge.

Amen.... :-)

I still love my Tesla, its a beautiful perfect tool for getting from A to B, but I am developing a tiny little classic Audi itch which this would have scratched perfectly... ;)

+1, and both already satisfied for me - along with the other itch for a classic little Pininfarina beauty.

Lucky me, on all three counts +++.

I store my S8 next to a little Italian beauty.
I thought it was a Fiat Coupe until I looked at the picture on my phone this morning to realise that it's a Fiat Barchetta convertible instead.
I obviously didn't pay enough attention to the Fiat lessons back at school :)

Can’t be many of those left that’ve been converted to RHD? Seem to recall there were a few offered by dealers when the car was launched, but for most people the car was small enough to not really need it

Colleague at work at a Punto HGT which went like stink but always had at least 1 random warning light on! That was when it was still under warranty.....

"One of only three believed to have been converted under license from Fiat by Bell and Colville"

From what I've read. I think the owner has it for sale too.
I've sat in it but it's a little too compact for me.

Hands off! Ian is always after my cars.

Thanks for the welcome backs, I don’t get as much time to post on the forum anymore as life is so much busier than it used to be. It’s a great community though, and I try to contribute when I can (sending a D5 to the last meet when they were newly launched etc...)

Hopefully we can all catch up in person sometime soon. Lovely second cars some of you have posted in here too, I’m very jealous.
