I did something similar with my last car, but the lacquer started coming away again after a few weeks, it never really 'took' :(

I don't expect them to last as long as a professional job. I did rub down well, used a 80grit flap wheel to start with, followed on with 240, 400, 800, 1500 sanding wet & dry. Cleaned well with pre paint wipe, 2 coats of lacquer from a rattle can, flatten off with 2000, before polished and waxed. PS used a camping stove to heat rim softly prior to spray

Good job! Try some wheel wax or sealant to help preserve the finish.

Top work , 10 hrs well spent
Btw you can use the dish washer to clean them first , just be careful I did a set of Yamaha crankcases in it a few years ago , luckily wifey was away for a week took about 4 days to get rid of the smell and grit in it , not sure it's been right since , made a wonderful job though Mike |
What a thread this has turned out to be!
