Do we have these already on the S8 chaps?

they look like rubber to me but don't compress one iota when I squeeze them

Standard hoses are reinforced rubber about 10mm diameter. They will compress with a proper brake line clamp. They should have this rubber sleeves over each union if they are original or decent aftermarket.

If your hoses are smaller (7-8mm) then they are likely braided.
