Some people will know straight away what this is but I will let the others guess for a little while

Some kind of secondary water pump? For circulation water to the cabin heater matrix maybe?

paulrstaylor 19th September 2020 07:20 AM

Exactly that, auxiliary heater circulation pump +++

Where does that go then? From pictures it looks like the D3 has a very similar valve block to the D2 with an integrated motor :Confused:

HPsauce 19th September 2020 09:07 AM

Is it for the A6 then? Presumably not as it's in the D3 section....

It's for Webasto heater to circulate coolant when the engine is not running so that I can set heater to switch on timer and warm it up a bit before I get to the car. My D2 S8 had and A6 has aftermarket alarm with remote start that I can set to start engine on timer and warm it up so missing the option on D3 a bit. As the boiler is already there it would be rude not to add the pump. Not sure about aftermarket alarm, could be a bit more complicated to plug it in D3 with more electronics and not really necessary if it already has heater to do the job without engine running. On the other hand with remote start it works the other way too and can start it on hot summer day for AC to cool it down so could be worth investigating remote start as well especially as my D3 does not have solar sunroof.

Here is the link to the guide for it. Someone else uploaded it to the forum, I cannot find a thread where it was uploaded but searching on Google finds the attachment itself on this site.

That's one of the things I love about my Tesla, being able to turn on the climate control (inc demisters, seat/steering heaters, etc) for as long as necessary before going out in the car, and without having to run an engine. The best part is I don't even have to leave the house to turn it on either; I just open the app. :) I'm going to miss that when I drive the D2 again.

To save money you could do it my way.
Cabin heating is not as efficient because it relies on convection within the coolant system but it was rather effective. In the winter my first job after falling out of bed was peering out of the bedroom window at the car. If the screen was frozen I just pressed and held the heater remote button for a few seconds then went to do my ablutions. By the time I was ready for work the car was always warm enough to clear the windows of ice, note ALL the windows. The car was not roasting but was appreciably warmer than outside.

Another bonus was after this mod I never again had frozen locks or door seams.
Just note the warning about soldering, but at nearly 81 I am still soldering much smaller things so if you can solder just practice and hone your skills.
Good luck.

Aye but by the time you get out to drive away the battery will be flat and you will have to take the D2 anyway:ROFL:

Except they've thought of that, and the app on your phone warns you ahead of that when your battery charge drops to 20% - should you forget and get to that stage after about 18 hours of running every battery draining item :ROFL: ....

Foolproof, really +++
