E10 fuel to replace standard

The E10 petrol will launch in September so E5 will only be available in the premium fuels, these will only need to be sold if a forecourt sells more than 1m litres a year it seems.

I understand that too much ethanol can deteriorate fuel pipes and other seals. I wonder if this has been clearly announced to the public. Not everyone will be aware of the dangers. I usually buy the premium fuel but wonder if it'll cause problems if I fill up with E10 if there's no other choice.

Doesn't appear to be a problem: :tuttut:
Volkswagen Group
Audi:
E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Audi petrol driven vehicles, excluding the following vehicles:
• First generation direct injection engines:
o Audi A2 1.6 FSI, model years 2003-2005
o Audi A3 1.6 FSI, model year 2004
o Audi A3 2.0 FSI, model year 2004
o Audi A4 2.0 FSI, model years 2003-2004
• Audi A4 Saloon petrol engine models with OEM parking heater, of model years 2001-2008. E10 is not suitable for use during the heating season in countries with colder climates.
• Audi A4 Avant petrol engine models with OEM parking heater of model years 2002-2008. E10 is not suitable for use during the heating season in countries with colder climates.

But . . . based on previous dealings with Audi . . .
just because they've "cleared it" doesn't mean they wont walk away from anything not on that list should you get an issue later :tuttut:

I wont be risking it and normally use super unleaded in all cars anyway +++

I remember this being discussed at work when I was involved with vehicle emissions legislation (but not, thankfully, fuels policy - which was covered elsewhere!)

The ones highlighted above (i.e. very early direct injection engines) do have issues with E10 fuel, but in the main most cars will be fine. If you've driven on the continent you will almost invariably have filled up with E10 before. I know I have in Belgium (and probably France too)

This list is probably the most comprehensive:

And I doubt if anyone has an older, more vintage vehicle they will fare so well. I doubt the pipe work on my Capri will be a huge fan :/

Filled up last night. BP Ultimate...158.9p a litre! Seems to have jumped sharply since the E10 was introduced. That works out at £143 a tank. :(

You're lucky you found fuel at all, let alone enough to fill an 8! The pumps are dry round here https://www.corradov8.com/pics/banghead.gif

FWIW, the fuel system in a D2 is fine with E10 if choices are limited.

I managed to get some fuel today. both BP and Sainsbury's were sold out but Morrisons seemed to have plenty. Filled up with £76 from just under half a tank. Had to get E10 though as they don't stock any other so expecting to get through it a lot quicker as less efficient.

Thanks MJ, hoping this panic has blown over before she needs more fuel, but will bear that in mind. Did take a bit of a tour to find an empty pump though!
