Just Fitted a Fire TV On MMI 2G

3 Attachment(s)
I had a spare input on my digital tuner so I thought I’d stick at Fire TV in it. It works amazingly and now I have built in Netflix, Kodi, Apple Music, iPlayer etc. On all 3 TV’s Proper chuffed with it.

Here’s what I needed;

AV in cable

4G Router and SIM card
Huawei E5577 Black 4G Low-cost Travel Wi-Fi, Super-Fast Portable Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot – Long-lasting Battery

HDMI to Composite adapter (I had one of these in stock but this should do)

And 2 of these 12v to 5v converters

Sure, next time I have the DTV unit out I’ll get some pics.

If you have a continuity tester it’s easy enough to figure out which pin does what, then you just use the attached pin outs on the DTV plug

Hello Chip, I like what you have done.
Do you have any audio whine/hum whistle (ground loop feedback).
I do and I'm using a bluetooth receiver on AV1 and a MOTOVIEW airplay/chromecast on AV2 and was wondering if your power supply would be better than my USB cigar adapter.

There is a slight high pitched hum when no audio is playing but it’s not Audiable when something is
Doesn’t the cig socket stay powered all the time?

If you are getting a ground loop you could try this?

Thanks.
Yes cig socket is on all the time, but battery seems to cope OK. I would unplug if I was parked at the airport etc... but car is used at least 5 times a week.
I will make a switched supply one day as per the video on dognmonkey.com website.
I might try one of those isolators but in theory, they should reduce the audio quality a bit. I'll post back if/when i do.

My car came with a PS2 fitted so I already had these piggy-back fuses installed, one is constant 12v and the other is ignition

Not sure why they ran the constant all the way through the car though

I bought 2 of the ones listed above and it makes a MASSIVE difference, no loss of signal quality but when the music is paused now I hear nothing! Sounds so frikken good now! Highly recommend +++

I got bored of the Fire TV so I swapped it for an Apple TV, much better airplay support and still has all my favourite apps.

Instead of getting a (big nasty) power inverter I opened the Apple TV up and found that the Transformer outputs 3.3v so I bought a 12-4v in-line step down tranny and it runs it fine. Now I get the Album/Track/Art Show on my MMI screen whilst airplaying +++
