Off on my travels again

Okay, really just another day in the office.
I'm currently driving a VDL tri-axle on a three day line dancing tour. Imagine that, three days line dancing!!! I am the oldest on the coach, not unusual these days after all my 78th year ends next month.
We are staying at the Grisland Hall Hotel in Northumbria. Big car parks and room for six coaches. Could be a possible A8 Annual meet venue. Not far from Carlisle with beautiful scenery. Bad weather at the moment though.

Another hotel I stayed at recently was the Winnock Hotel in Drymen, close to Loch Lomond that could also be considered for a meet. Very close to the Trossachs and Loch Katrine, Sir Walter Scott steamboat and a Pierside Cafe of repute. Also not far to the Falkirk Wheel and Bo'ness Steam Railway.

Don't forget to post some photos Ray +++

What are those big, high-sided coaches like in high winds? Do you feel the wind or are they too heavy to get pushed around?

And "line" dancing? Does that involve snorting coke?

I know I'd have to be on drugs to be persuaded to do any kind or dancing.

I think this post just confirms that you're now our unofficial "location scout" Ray: it's always interesting to hear what you think of these myriad places that you visit, and whether they'd be suitable for us - I rarely get to anywhere as relevant, so keep posting please!

Hi Ray
I take it your keeping busy by the sounds of it, Some of my work mates have stayed there, and it didn't get a good review driver's room was a shoe box.
I thought Callander was a nice place.

Keep up the good work.

Ray is now kicking himself with his cowboy boots for 'volunteering'

Just wondering if Ray will be playing this on the coach stereo:

You sure have a lot on and in addition to the driving you get to be socialising with all onboard, which must at time be a right laugh. And then there's the line dancing........

Keep it up, we younger codgers need your fine example +++

Where do I start with the answers
The meaning of life?
Nah, let's stay with the mundane.
I like Mark's idea, coke snorting. could be a result there as long as nobody tells the peelers.
You do feel the strong winds especiallywhen something big goes the other way on narrow roads but with experience you become prepared.
Yes, 79 next month, hence "the end of my 78th year". Just a different way of putting it.
I don't do the dancing, that's what Gwen and I did. So, sorry, I'm a wallflower now.
Ricky Nelson's "On The Road Again" I like. I'll go into the ballroom shortly and see if we can broadcast it.
Driver's rooms are what one accepts and I don't give in. I've even threatened to book into a different hotel and take the cost off what we pay for the group. We are not part of the furniture and any owner/manager should see that if they want repeat business the driver needs to be a happy bunny.
I'll try for some photos before we leave but only if the rain stops.

hate to tell you this ray , but your 80th year will start in your 79th birthday just as your 78th year started on your 77th birthday
from someone in his 80th year

Indeed not, that's the end of your 79th year. :tuttut:

If you're confused consider your first birthday which was the end of your first year and start of your second!

Says he, just over half way through his 70th year.
