Swapping seats

2 Attachment(s)
A quick one, here ,but to anyone thats never removed a D2 seat, there is probably an air of mystery.

All D2 seats, front at least, have the same electrical connections and bolt holes. Facelift are all identical, but prefacelift sees quite a few changes over the years, airbags, rear footwell lights etc.

This is the passenger side, absent of any seats, showing the position of the cables, and bolts holes

So, the seats are a nice easy, 4 bolts, 2 parallel rails install. Electrically, the brown connector takes all the power, lights, seatbelt adjustment connections - The green one takes the heated seat features, the 2 pin red one is for the airbag ignitor.

Note also, its rare not to find money lost down the side of the seat. In this rare occasion, even the passenger has loose pockets. Cool +++

Sorry to hijack an old thread. Is it necessary to disconnect the battery first to stop the risk of airbag deployment? Saw the display at the last meet and would NOT like one of those going off in my face!!! Got a lateral acceleration sensor to replace next week. Cheers.

You should disconnect the battery and wait half an hour to allow any stored energy to dissipate

Don't switch ignition on until everything reconnected or you'll need to reset an airbag warning light :)

Cheers for that Adrian.

Can i jump in here as well and ask you to measure the distance between the bolt holes (front to back and left to right) please.

Im trying to find a set of seats to fit my VW T4 & rumour is that a8 seats will go right on to the original seat bases

The picture was a year ago.... seats may be back in by now

if you ring the forum sponsors (details at the top of the page) then I'm sure they will measure the bolt centres for you on a set +++

Does anyone know if all the connectors are in there from rhe factory? I want to install heated sport seats but my car doesn’t have the heat option on the comfort seats? Both cars are pre-facelift. Thanks in advance.

From what I've read, the pre-facelift car looms had everything on them, so the connectors should be there. Just a matter of getting the seats and the appropriate HVAC unit with the seat heater controls.

NOTE: Someone like IT will be able to confirm when this stopped and they moved to custom wiring looms for every car.

Thanks mate, hopefully you’re right. I already got the slots for the buttons, so I’ll check the wires. I read somewhere that up to ‘98 they are all pre-wired from the factory.
