Draining battery
Long time no see guys!
Have a little pickle going on now. Here the 11th now the car suddenly drained totally. I found out this when i was going to work on monday morning (ofc). I hooked on the battery charger and took my spare car to work and used it for the reminder of the week with the A8L still charinging. Tried to start it this saturday and all seemed to bee good, drove it for a couple miles, let it stand still for 2-3 hours and took another drive, all ok. Put the car to rest at 10pm or something saturday night, and 2am saturday/sunday night the alarm started going of before it stoped totally again due to flat battery. Hooked on the carger again and did a RMA on the battery (Sĝnnak 95ah AGM battery) and changed it yesterday at work 10am, did a battery coding + test. All good, and i drove the car home from work about 6pm and when i got up and tried to start it again today 6.45am ish it was totally dead again. So something draining like crasy. Here's a full system search dump from when i changed the battery yesterday, noting that screams issues from what i can see! It's a 2010 A8L 3.0 Quattro btw! Quote:

You really need to clear all codes (global clear plus go into each module and physically clear as well) and then scan again as a lot of these codes are older codes. Once you have done that then re-post the fault codes fresh +++

The only things who were left after i deleted them yesterday was the left parking brake motor (that's in is inbound, been defect a couple month's). And a couple others that should have anything to do with the drain. But anyway's i can't see anything it that big list from the other day that indicates a failure right before the different systems started putting low voltage errors. |
Ok, so update time. Haven't had time to f-around with the car before now. And i just swaped out the battery for a fully charged one and coded it.
I've had the car in the workshop for about 3 hours now with the ignition off, doors closed and truck shut (lights off). And i see that the ligthing in the shifter console, and all the backlighting in the roof panels are on (including the little white "spot" diodes in the rearview mirror). Have anyone experienced this before? |
Done a complete readout, deleted with CAN command, and then went in to each system and manually deleted what was left. Then did a new search, this is what i'm left with now (the parking break motor i'm going to change today, and tyre pressure is because of a leaky valve so i have those sorted) and i'm pretty sure the "00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)" is because i haven't driven the car after i deleted the other codes / ie. not initialized yet.

The rear footwell heaters apparently are a common fault. As for the reversing camera fault, it seems tied into the steering angle sensor, so hopefully that will also disappear after you drive it.
|
Yup the rear footwell heater's is just something i totally ignore tbh
And i guess/hope that all faultcodes that i have there will go away when i change the parking brake motor and start to drive. The problem ist still there in regards to draining the flipping battery though:( |
The battery coding is showing null values at the start, but I would change them to zero's (coding is in HEX, therefore 30)
Code:
Current: That may solve nothing, just a but of house keeping making sure the BEM is happy and knows the capacity. The fault code logged today, 2018.11.28, in the radar shows a voltage of 11.4v, which is too low. Have you charged it since then? Was this the old battery? What's with the fault in both analogue and digital radios of can not be reached? Is the car kept outside? The keyless door lock buttons can cause the car to keep waking up through water ingress or condense at the dew point. |

The battery has been coded with a Exide battery coder to be a AGM 105 battery to, so i guess it should be ok? The 11,4v is because i have been derping around with the VCDS (with charger on?). But somethings drawing it. Regarding the radio fault codes is because i tryed to put in a 2013 Q5 radio unit to get DAB+, well over a year ago but it didn't work and i haven't gotten around fixing it. But the battery drain problem happened so long after i doubt that's the issue since it's been so long without any problems? And yes the car is kept outside, but all the keyless buttons ( i'f you mean the ones that's on the chrome trim) all work? And no fault codes on them either? I'm not saying there not the problem with what your mentioning ofc. just saying what i know atm :/ . |
Swapped out the faulty parking brake motor yesterday, and redid the coding to 303030etc, drove the car home and had it standing over the night with charger on so that i can proceed with the car after work today.
Today i'm planing to update the MMI and navigation to see if that might help (ditch atempt, but it's needed anyways). One thing that i find a little strange is that the clock in the instrument cluster still haven't adjusted itself? Even though it's had power (ignition off ofc) since 7pm ish yesterday and until now:Confused: |
