Anyone desperate for a dimming passenger side mirror glass?
1 Attachment(s)
Someone on another forum has a spare (accidentally purchased) nearside dimming mirror glass. I think it's 8D0857535G which is the curved type (but not aspherical).
If not I'll probably get it myself as a spare, but if anyone is desperate for one PM me and I'll put you in touch. Picture: |

Hi....I'll have it, price dependent of course...:)
How yellow is it? They all go a bit yellow with age, as you know. Please PM me. Thanks, Zip |
I've already had interest via PM and passed contact details on; I'll let you know if that doesn't go through.

i've also got a passenger side one going, but its started to turn yellow
|
I've now seen a picture of this one in daylight and it is really yellow. I think the seller is now fairly sure it's failed so it's unlikely to be available.

Ok...thanks for the heads-up.

The seller was very open and honest with me when I contacted him through HPSauce. After much discussion about the fact the colour appeared a bit gold in the photo, he agreed that it was but understood that failure was usually signified by the photochromic liquid leaking out. He said he would raise the gold discolouration on the Rs246 forum and whether it indicated failure/potential failure or not. I told him that mine turned gold before draining away and that my (intact) drivers side mirror was clear, silver but dimmed as intended. He was totally open about the issue and I dont think he was trying to pass it off. Its a shame for him as he is saddled with a possibly duff mirror.

It's not a big issue, the fact he had it at all only came to light as a side-effect of another discussion about a smashed (offside) mirror glass and what all the various part numbers were exactly. I think he'd just bought it (in error) long ago and put it aside rather than bin it.
That's probably what will happen now, though if someone actually has a smashed (nearside) mirror glass this would be an improvement. |
Just awakening this over 5yo thread, the answer is "me"!
My nearside mirror is definitely yellow compared to the drivers one, so is presumably on its way out. I think the hot days earlier this week did for it! Does anyone have one or know a source, ideally using more modern dimming technology? I did get a new mirror for my Volvo a while back and that firm claimed to be able to make any type of car mirror (at a price) so I'll investigate. Edit: These people https://phoenixwingmirrors.co.uk/ so I've sent a query. |
