S mode for a 2000 S8 !!!

Hi guys,

I've been playing with Vagcom and was looking for info of how to change / choose the Shift Program that the car adapts to your style.

However i came across this :

http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=1754864

A mod of a 2002/03 TCU into a 2000 S8, which opens up a fast shifting automatic sport mode....just in case you want to get rid of gas faster

Its not S8 specific - Its for A8's too.... All D2's towards the end of 2001 / beginning 2002 came with the Sports mode, even the 2.8.... It does make it far more 'sporty' - Far more use than the useful '432' option on most folks gear stick !

Had the same option on the RS6... Now that chewed through some juice :D

Hi Ian,

Indeed....However you can't use a A8 box in an S8 by the looks of that thread and its probably worth trying to pair up the Engine / Gearbox, although there isn't any details at all for a AVP and getting hold of the right ECU is probably pricy.....I doubt you guys get many late one ???

Well I nearly brought a 02 TCU from the states then planned on getting a 02 shifter surrond but PaulW told me not to risk it with my euro car :(

The squirt mode (great name) not only makes the box hold onto the lower gears, it also downshifts more aggressively when you push the load pedal. And best of all, when you lift off, the box downshifts and keeps the revs up where the power is. So the instant you touch the accelerator you're off like a nutter.
Of course you can do all of this with the tip, but speaking for myself I'm usually so busy hanging on and grinning a lot, I forget to change down.

Thinking about it, the word squirt should be replaced with schizo

Are the D2 gearbox controllers the same as the RS6 in make? If so you can remap them if you really wanted to!

Could someone with a 2002 S8 please find out the part number of your TCU please ?

I strongly suggest it will be 4D0 927 156 EC, and the one in your car now is probably a 4D0 927 156 DG. You can get the info from vagcom without having to ferret under the bonnet.

You need James or some other lucky 2002+ owner to check.

In theory, all the controllers are identical, its just the firmware that differs. Find someone that 'codes' ECU's, get them to read the settings off a late model and squirt it onto yours... Thats my theory anyway +++

I'll have a poke around on vag com at the weekend and see what I can come up with. Don't hold your breath, I don't have a clue how to use it
