New to vagcom
Hi all I've order a vagcom ( Ross tech) ,and would like a car manual that includes vagcom info to allow me to identify/ check and clear faults etc or alternatively 2 separate manuals , and was wonder which is best and were to get .for s8 d3

Best place to start is the Ross Tech Wiki pages. They also have a forum for registered users. VCDS is very user friendly and generally won't let you do anything major without prompting you.
The checking for fault codes (scan) is easy as you just click on 'Auto Scan' and it will scan every module in the car. Any faults will show in red and you can then click on them to see what the code is. If you want to just interrogate one module, you can select it manually. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page |
As far as I can tell VAG Com works the same on my D4 as it did on the D3.
Like Home said, it's user friendly and you will be able to easily figure how to clear fault codes. For making changes to settings, I use the net and dig about. |

Thanks guys ,I had thought it was more complex ,i don't intend to change settings unnecessarily just to clear and reset faults after the winter maintenance is complete,as a matter of interest I changed rear pads and discs there and refurbed Calipers ,do i need to use vcds to reset values or will hand brake auto learn it's self ,i tried handbrake when finished and it went on and off without problem or faults coming up ( went for short test drive and all good ,wheels weren't binding)

Did you measure the pad thickness to enter through vcds YouTube is your friend.

I removed the pb motors and used a t30 torx into the Calipers to retract pistons ,i didn't measure pads (vcds has come yet but should be here in next day or two ,brakes and pb working correctly )
