2002 Exclusive GmbH S8 FS. Probably.

As per my Sig. This is a very rare car in deed, and has stirred interest in the D2 community over the years.

Not only is it a very unique build, but its complete and unmodified from day 1.

Built 19/02/2002 specifically to showcase the GmbH custom features, not in the regular brochure:
  • Electric Individual Heated Rear Seats, with Autoretract on door opening and passenger seat movement from the rear
  • Passenger Seat Memory
  • Blinds
  • Exclusive Alcantara Headlining
  • Exclusive Extended leather pack
  • Exclusive Leather Controls Pack
  • Exclusive Carpets
  • Exclusive Floor Mats
  • Exclusive Leather dashboard and centre console
  • Exclusive Factory rear seat entertainment with extended leather covered centre console, TV function, DVD player, DVD storage and Aux inputs.
  • Exclusive Aqua Blue paintwork

I don't know what it cost new, as there the D2 exclusive brochure, is, well, so exclusive, I've never seen one ! Going by the D3 pricing though, you could comfortably add 15-20K onto the regular list price I'm sure.

Photos of this car, brand new, sat in the London Piccadilly flagship dealership:

The service history over the last 3 years is undocumented (bar the MOT's), although the seller claimed a cambelt change last year and I have to say, the engine and gearbox, against all odds, feel incredibly youthful. It is one of the most responsive D2's I've driven.

Known faults:
  • Final drive seal needs replacing
  • Front o/s brake squeals when warm
  • PDC fails occasionally
  • Wheels aren't perfect
  • Interior Door handles show signs of paint wear
  • Bodywork generally very presentable but would benefit from more TLC

Otherwise, its an incredibly original, factory spec pre-final edition demonstrator still wearing its original Audi OV demonstrator plates. It drives really well, and was a seriously enjoyable drive at the recent Audi meet.

The colour coding takes some digesting in the photos, but essentially the dashboard leather matches the external paintwork quite well, creating a tan contrast with the seats and roof lining.

Its one of only 2 UK cars I know of that received factory leather dashboard, and its the only known surviving UK S8 of 2 with electric rear seats. The RSE entertainment I once saw on a UK LWB, but never on an S8. Its actually a long wheel base option, which is highlighted in the factory instruction manual for the rear seat entertainment showing a storage cubby which is absent on this short wheel base example.

Its also the car I've ever seen which has a before (in the showroom) and after (18 years after!) photo. Sadly, it doesn't look quite as gleaming as it did back then, but its a goal for the lucky new owner to aim for +++

Serious interest and/or offers are invited over PM. I suspect I'll gain more interest in the wider online marketplace, but don't want to let it go there first without at least putting it here.

And yes, I know the D3 was going to go, but <cutting very long story short> the D3 has to stay for the foreseeable as a daily, and one of them always had to go.

Actual photos of it to follow when it, and I are together next.

Yes, a dire experience with a recent Approved Used Audi daily purchase catalysed with some upcoming insurance constraints and I'm running low on options for toys right now.... :-(

Different dealer. Different Car. Same headaches. Awful rushed preparation, overlooked a number of items (including keyless, again!) and generally shoving it out of the door ready or not on 31st for a month end sale (by their eventual admission). It really is a whole separate, and lengthy thread all on its own....

Go on, you know you want to +++ (in a different thread, naturally!)

At the risk of diluting my own thread, I do currently have a deposit down on the new Audi Etron...... but not for much longer....

;). And at the risk of diluting it further, I wonder if that'll arrive before my Model 3s do? Sorry Ian, I couldn't resist... :)

Who knows. Put the deposit down over 3 months ago. Not heard a single word about the progress of it all. I'm in a quandry where I still like Audi cars, but have zero desire to deal with Audi. Even mulled over an M3 the other day. If Tesla would just build a premium car, instead of an american built car with a premium price tag, I'd be all over it, but the fit and finish is Japanese like at best (sorry).
