Interior dash and console (red) lamps intermittently very bright then dim fluctuating
 

Hi folks,
During a road trip this weekend in the S8 I noticed while driving during the day (lights off) the climate and all other red status and instrument lights on dash and console are periodically getting very bright then returning to the dim levels intermittently - very annoying...
There is clearly an issue with the voltage output or light sensor other...

My car is a 2006 D3 S8

Can anyone offer some guidance? thanks guys.
