Annual Meet 2018: hotel booking and attendance list
As promised, here are the hotel details. Please note that, when booking (because the hotel is effectively closed to other bookings for a month) you need to quote a booking password: "A8 Forum".
As I said last night, there should be around 22 rooms left (rooms 19 & 17 are being refurbished but will be ready for June). Rooms 20- 28 are doubles (23 & 25 have facilities for disabled people) and 28 also has a double sofa bed. Rooms 30 - 38 are also doubles (38 also has a double sofa bed). Room 2 has twin beds and rooms 9, 17 & 19 are pet friendly rooms. The hotel is Durker Roods Hotel in Meltham (close to Holmfirth). Telephone 01484 851413 (and don't forget the password: A8 Forum). And the rates: £70 per room, per night, including breakfast. More about the planned programme of events once we've checked out a route and possible 'attractions' (the possibles list is already too long!). Please copy & paste the list and add your name when you've booked (even if you book somewhere else). 1. Mark (moltuae): Room 1 booked 2 nights (1st & 2nd June 2018) 2. We're now almost 2 weeks in to the period that the hotel rooms are reserved exclusively for us (they said they'd keep them for one month). Time to commit to attending the meet and booking a room where all the action will be!
In a little over a couple of weeks, the rooms will be open for Joe Public to book (and the Peak District really does get booked up early!) so, come on folks, book a room (password is A8 Forum) and join us. We promise you a good, family-friendly weekend with a beautiful, but not too fast or far, drive and some unique 'attractions' that you, your partner and offspring will enjoy. |

So, just 9 rooms left I think so, if you miss them, you'll need to find alternative accommodation, which will become increasingly difficult as we get closer to the date. And, in a just 2 week's time, the rooms at The Durker Roods Hotel won't be reserved for us and may be booked by Joe Public.
So, if you can plan 8 months ahead, and commit to the 2018 Annual Meet, book your room ASAP! |

OK, no further meet promo required! Dean (well, his car) and MJ will be celebrity guests and I now expect a mad rush for hotel rooms simply to see Dean's car and the 'Queen of D2 A8s'. Now that they're both coming, I'm thinking of 2 things:
1. Charging extra for those not already registered to come and worship MJ and Dean's car 2. Placing a hefty bet on which car will win the best D2 competition. It'll be great to meet you guys in June next year! Welcome indeed - I really hope we can put together a meet that you guys (and Pete P) will enjoy as much as the 'old timers'. |

Sounds like I need to book the car into the Devon D2 hospital a few days before the meet to make sure that she (the car) will measure up to expectations. |

Here's a countdown to the loss of our reserved hotel rooms. Strictly, this will end on Thursday this week and the rooms will then be available for anyone to book. I'll be speaking to the events manager this week to try to get an extension but, if you plan to attend the meet next June, BOOK A ROOM NOW!

Perhaps is we can give the hotel a (rough) idea of overseas guests, then they could block out a fixed number for another two weeks - Mikki/Neil, can you guesstimate this?

..and maybe Steve Häde with his wife. |
I have a call booked tomorrow morning with the events manager but, unless we get an extension, tomorrow is the last day that the rooms will be reserved for us.
The chances are that, even if you book a room now and your circumstances change, you'll be able to transfer your room to another forum member at a later date - there are always people looking for a room much closer to the event. Go on, book a room, let me sleep easily knowing the hotel is fully booked! :) |
BTW, if my sums are correct, there are only 7 rooms left. ..........

Maybe a call to Maria tomorrow morning before calling the hotel. |

I was vaguely expecting some sort of confirmation from them, probably by email (I gave them that over the phone), but haven't heard anything at all....... |
Is there any possibility to book online? Or do I have to make a phone call?
I really would love to be attending next year's Annual meet |

See: http://www.durkerroodshotel.co.uk/ Telephone: +44 (0)1484 851413 Email: enquiries@durkerroodshotel.co.uk You presumably can't book online as that weekend is currently reserved, though I'm not sure they have an online booking facility anyway. |
Thank you
I will send them an e-mail then +++ |
Or I can make your booking when I call the events manager tomorrow! You'll need to send me full details by PM: full name, address, phone and email
|
Good idea. If my e-mail ends up in the spam folder :)
|
If I end up going to the Annual Meet. It will be my first trip in Europe!
I never go anywhere on vacation unless I know I will be able to meet locals. One time I went to Siberia to meet a woman. I flew to Irkutsk, and took the train to Ulan-Ude, and stayed there for a full month. She visited me later for three months. We are still friends, but we haven't met since. During my stay there, I only saw 6 tourists, I believe :) |
