05 4.2 V8 Petrol Battery

Hi There,

I'm contemplating getting a new battery for the Audi. The existing one is OK, though a couple of weeks of low use and short driving and it's worth putting a charger on it and as such I think it's getting low and weak.

I've also a Jeep 4.0 Grand Cherokee that if i don't use for a few days the battery is low - I modified it AGES ago to take a bigger battery, which is either old A8 or Jag (Varta 3D0 915 105 G)

However the one currently in the A8 (4.2, V8, D3 2005 PF) is odd MF Profi Start red and black thing. 60044 12V 100Ah 810A - has another code RA 531 835 - might be German?

Any ideas what i need and where's good these days ???

Ta,
Lee

I think @mikkijayne posted recently on batteries, suggesting the Yuasa ones aren’t proving terribly reliable in a D2. Bosch and Varta (slightly cheaper and identical to Bosch) were I think the recommendations

By the time you’ve picked the correct size you’ll generally find the A8 will need the biggest capacity and CCA that you can get anyway. I think on TPS website you can find the OEM battery spec with a registration number lookup?

TPS - We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with this tool.

Whoop. Still not sure on quite which battery for the 05 4.2 petrol v8

Try these guys: Tayna Batteries

depending on codes on your build sticker, the OEM spec is either:

95Ah/450A with J1U or J3E codes
110Ah/520A with J0Z or J3F codes
92Ah/520A with J0Z or J3F codes

I imagine the latter two are just market variations, so probably assume it's the 100Ah spec you're after. OEM part number is 000 915 105DL

Hopefully a registration lookup from the link MJ has posted will correlate.....

I bought mine from Tayna. They have an ebay shop and regularly have discounts. I paid £106 for the correct 110ah for my car (some prat fitted a 100ah to it). I would imagine the battery space is identical and should fit either battery. Also a good idea to code it once fitted

They seem slightly odd. ~100Ah sounds about right, but most at that size are ~800A which is certainly better!

Tempted with https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/h3/

Tanya seems to say 019 and recommend the Enduroline brand - Comes out round the £100 for either and there's a 5% discount code direct!

I like the Vartas, or if you prefer you can get the same battery with a Bosch sticker for another £20. They tend to recommend whatever has the best profit margin and / or marketing tbh.

Ah (amp-hours) is a fairly old measure now and has mostly been superceded by CCA (cold cranking amps), although more is better applies to either. Mildly vexing as Ah did tend to correlate with physical size whereas CCA doesn't, so you have to go on the type code instead (019).
