Forum not crashing

Its been a while, and for that I apologise.

The forum used to go offline every once in a while, then a bit more often, then it became unbearable.

The underlying issue was almost certainly to do with the underlying mysql database, but as luck wouldn't have it, it would always die at the most inconvenient times, meaning we could either (a) leave it down till i have time or (b) just reboot it

In the background i had already been doing a lot of work to transition the whole forum, as is, across to a new O/S, new server, new DB, new web server etc.

I expedited this and 23 days ago it was migrated and it has been up and running perfectly, for 23 days. All signs are that it will simply stay up and running.

We have also enforced HTTPS.

The edit button will be back, its taken a vacation for reasons I won't go into right now, but it will be back.

Now I've upgraded all the underlying bits, moving up to Vbulletin 4 and 5 should be significantly easier, so maybe we'll look into getting that done over the holiday period.

Thanks all for your patience +++

Thanks for your work Ian. I seldom post as the D3 chat is quiet these days, but do check in almost daily. +++

Well done Ian, the stability is most welcome. Anything else can wait its turn. +++

Thanks.

Nice one Ian. We're all lucky to have such a rich resource and source of advice running for free, and it's greatly appreciated +++

Glad that you've got things sorted, as it's a wealth of information that could have become NLA.
