Oil Level sensor

Hi Just got my first A8 , 2.8 sport PF 1998 . Of course it comes with age related niggles which I can deal with ,but the main one which is worrying me is the Oil Level error which only appears after I move off ,before then everything is clear.
The level on the dipstick appears to be correct .

It is really weird as if I point the car downhill the error will clear which is either pointing to a faulty sensor or maybe it is low on oil .wrong stick ??

I have been reading but most errors happen when the sensor fails and shows it as such.

any help much appreciated

I would also like to say the car has no rattles, the only noise is the leather squeeking.more than I can say with my 3year old company car lol

if you have access to a VCDS (Vagcom) a scan would pick up a faulty sensor. I'll measure the length of the lipstick later and post.

Thanks for the info ,do the cheap cables actually work? Though I will be getting a real one once cash reserves are back up

They do; but with reduced functionality. They will do most of the things you need.
