S8 D2 FE what's it worth?

After only owning my S8 for a short time, I've come to the conclusion that it needs to go - my work pattern is changing and that means I will be spending even less than half the year in the country, and I'm not prepared to let the car sit there and not be used. My intention was to keep it forever, so I'm saddened by this, but needs must. Sad times for me.

It looks stunning in Volcano Black. It has approx 72k miles from new with one previous keeper. Full service history. Everything works as it should - and it's a real pleasure to drive. The box changes gear seamlessly, no issues there. Interior is absolutely unmarked. The body has a few stone chips but other than that it's unmarked.

A few long standing forum members have told me that it is 100% a Final Edition - I'll take their word for it. People that know me know that I have some serious OCD when it comes to my cars, so not long after buying it I did the following:

5x wheel refurb - full strip back & powder coat
New tyres all round - Khumo Ecsta Sport
Full INA timing belt kit including water pump & poly V belt
Oil & filter change using Quantum Platinum & OEM filter
Pagid discs all round
Ferodo Premier pads all round
Brake fluid change to ATE Blue
Latest prop seal fitted to cure common leak
Changed all door switch panels to 'veneered' type
New 'Stratford Audi' number plates - where the car was bought when new

So, over the next few weeks I'll be advertising the car for sale. What do you guys realistically think it would sell for?

Some photos - prior to the wheel refurb.

I don't believe it is truly a final edition as Ebony black was the only official final edition black, and no '02' plate car has ever been a final edition to my knowledge.

That said - It looks lovely, well cared for and I'm sure is one of the finest examples of a late D2 out there +++

My bad.... the paint code is LZ9W which is Ebony. Not sure where I got Volcano from!

FE or not I don't know. There was one recently on Ebay advertised as a FE - it was a 05/2002 which would have made it an 02? In saying that, it could have easily been wrongly advertised.

Does it matter if it's an FE or not? It's what options/extras it has that are important, unless you're after one of the "crazy colour combos" which this isn't.

FWIW my S8 was built 04/2002 and is definitely not an FE, though it wasn't registered until Sept 2003!

OMG, this **is** a great example.

If driver's seat is as good as the passenger seat on the last picture I'd say it should fetch £7000. That's what I'll pay for it if I had space for a second D2. Good luck selling.

But I'd personally keep it. Get a nice warm garage and put it there. Drive it each time you get to UK every half a year.

Edit: Don't understand as to why people leave this country for work reasons. Specifically, to idiotic places like Dubai...
In my experience, UK is one of the best countries to work. But that's another discussion.

Very nice and tidy example.

Typical, I've been searching for one for months and 4 nice ones come up in the same week lol.

You're right of course. Final Edition didn't even cross my mind when I bought it, but the important thing is I don't wrongly advertise it.

How to put a price on perfection?

What it's worth depends on a number of things, not just it's "market" value, which I'd say is c.£6k with that mileage and spec, but also who wants to buy it (probably someone on here…) and how badly you want to sell it.

If you're not in a hurry, and an S8 aficionado really wants this spec (which I could understand. personally… :D ), then it could be worth a fair bit more than market value.

It also depends whether you want it to go to a good home: if I was selling mine - which I'm not :) - I'd probably want to make sure this was the case, but maybe that's just me...

Pulled from a thread on tyresmoke which many current members have previously contributed to lol

Quote:

Released March 4, but effective February 28, 2002, Audi has announced two special edition versions of the S8 model as part of the run-out activity of the A8 and S8 model ranges.
The two special editions are available in two colours, the Ebony Black version priced GBP 58,815 and the Avus Silver version priced GBP 59,815, both including delivery.

Additional items for new special editions:
- 8.5x20" highly polished 9-Spoke alloy wheels with 255/35 ZR20 tyres
- a boot mounted six-disc CD autochanger
- a BOSE audio-system
- xenon plus bi-xenon headlights
- telephone preparation with hands free function
- TV and Teletext reception
- coloured enhanced Leather pack II (seat upholstery, lower dashboard & centre console sides in Fine Nappa leather from quattro GmbH)
- coloured Controls pack (handbrake & gear lever in Fine Nappa leather)
- coloured leather sports steering wheel with tiptronic transmission controls
- dark Myrtle wood fascia, centre console & door trim

Upholstery options for new special editions:
- Avus Silver - Brilliant Red or Mauve leather upholstery & controls
- Ebony Black - Brilliant Red or Silver Grey leather upholstery & controls
There's another part to the thread which details further model iterations:

Quote:

Released April 10, but effective April 5, 2002, Audi has announced the availability of further S8 Special Editions due to the success of initial versions.

Audi has added two new colour-ways to the S8 Special Edition range:
- Misano Red with Silver Grey leather upholstery
- Aqua Blue with Morning Dew leather upholstery

The S8 special Edition in Aqua Blue, is priced GBP 58,815 and the Misano Red edition, priced at GBP 59,815, both including delivery.
02 plate ran from 1st March-31st August so quite possible for one to be on that plate, especially if it was ordered early after announcement - note that this one has the S mode too, which all FEs should have.

Everything I can see spec-wise in the pics screams 'final edition' to me :)

I'd say £6-7k too to the right buyer. It's a lot less in your face leather colour wise than mine or the red leather, correctly maintained by all accounts, low ownership count, low miles - what's not to love :D

David's8 18th February 2015 10:12 AM

Looks mint inside. +++ and the mileage is low too.Has the box been serviced by a reputable ZF specialist? That is always a good selling point and its reaching that point where it would be good idea if it hasnt been done already.
