Wanted D2 2.8
Hey all
After a long time or wanting I’ve decided to take the plunge and go for an A8! I’m looking for a D2 facelift car and preferably a 2.8 V6. If your selling or know of a good car please pm me with the details |
Do you have a preference for Quattro/ non Quattro or Sport/ non sport?

Any particular reason for 2.8? I'm just curious.
From a running cost perspective (if that's your on your mind), when I jumped up to my first S8 from a 2.8 QS I didn't notice a huge increase in fuel costs, insurance or maintenance costs. I've since had a further 2 S8's :D Edit: Also, I think the sport came in Quattro only. Only the early model 2.8's and 3.7's were FWD from memory...could be wrong though. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to confirm or otherwise. |
My dad had FL 2.8 sport Fwd it's was on w reg in similar green to your s8 Ricky

Running costs are the main factor for the choice of 2.8, I know it won’t be a vast difference but a few extra MPG’s would be useful:)

The quattro 2.8 needs a bit of hoofing really to get a move on, and so the mpg is basically the same as the 4.2 quattro. (a8, not s8) The non quattro version is noticeably better on the juice though. From memory, my average driving style looked very roughly like this: S8 = low 20's mpg A8 4.2 = ~30 mpg A8 2.8Q = ~30 mpg A8 2.8 = ~35 mpg |
My first ‘8 was a 2.8 QS, followed by 2 S8s, and I’d second Ian’s comments. I don’t think I ever managed 30mpg from the 2.8QS (although perhaps I did on the DIS, as that tends to be optimistic, but I always use actual mileage for every tank fill-up). On a run, I can get 23mpg out of the S8, but much less (high teens) if just pootling about. I’d suggest the 4.2 A8 is a great compromise of ‘economy’ and performance.

S8 on the left, 2.8QS on the right. I get 24mpg from both of them, although I do drive the 2.8 in S mode everywhere because the gearbox programming is so stupid.
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1613729001 As Ian said, the FWD is better on fuel and friskier as its carrying less weight and has less drivetrain loss. Early facelift (99-00) come in 2.8 FWD sport, but I think by 2001 everything was quattro. Fuel aside, the 2.8 will have slightly reduced maintenance cost as the engine is more common than the V8 so parts like the timing belt kit, water pump, aux belt drive are cheaper. Oh, and it has 2 fewer spark plugs. Thats really it though - everything else on the car is the same as the V8. I have been contemplating selling the 2.8 recently. I love it to bits, but the gearbox makes me cross every time I drive it, which is not often enough to justify keeping it. Offers would need to start with a 5 though, which would buy a reasonable S8... Thread about the car here: Big Red What's in the Workshop More pics here Tornado Red 2.8QS |
I've had a 2.8QS for a year now I do 300 miles on a tank around Cardiff.. good luck finding a nice unmolested example. I've spend 6-7k sorting mine out with a purchace price of 650.. Mikkis red 2.8 is a bargain
