Audi v8 for conversion
Hey all im not sure if this is the correct forum for this thread but here goes.
Iv got a nissan silvia that use for drifting i want to do a v8 engine conversion on it and bmw v8s are very popular, But id like to use an audi v8 because there more powerful. My question is though if i used a d2 v8 (i think its an ABZ engine) hat problems am i likely to run in to with regards to getting it started up. If found an american company that does bell housing adaptors so i can use a GM rwd gearbox, and clutch and flywheel could be custom made by ttv I cant find much info about these engines other than them going in to mr2s with a transaxle. Thanks for taking the time to read this and don't worry if you cant help. Thanks |
I don't think you'll have a major problem getting it running - are you planning on using standalone engine management, so no need for factory ECU?
Early engines (32V) are cable throttle so that's one thing you don't have to worry about. |
If i can get it working with the standard ecu that would be better as it would save in the region of 1k from managment and mapping.

Immobilizer function can be removed from ECU so that it runs happily without instrument cluster. The inconvenience is that for ABZ engine ECU is not OBD programmable so memory needs to be desoldered, read by external reader, then modified software written to new memory chip and soldered back in or better to solder a socket in ECU and just plug the new chip in so that it is easily removed in future.

It has a seperate micro processor, housed in a cigarette box-sized box, which is housed under the steering column area in an Audi A8 or A4 B5 pre-'99. |
