Slight Loss of Engine Oil

Late on Sunday I noticed a slight lowering of oil level on the dipstick. Bit worrying because she has never lost any between changes before.
No trace of oil spillage where I normally park.

I had to drive to Chepstow today so took her into my indie mate.
On the ramp we could see a little oil at the rear of the engine belly cover. Dropped cover and found oil around the sump plug. No oil visible higher than the bottom of the sump. Removed sump plug and the compression washer was compressed and of course was not reusable.
Made decision to put fresh oil in (he stocks it 'cos he has a TDI of his own for towing his Jet Ski) and ordered a new filter thinking that it would include a new sump plug washer; bugger no such luck.
Searched the garage and loads of new ones but nothing anywhere big enough.
1940's bodge it job, I had to get going. PTFE tape to the rescue. It worked the miracle.
Result! Had a goo, still good.d quick run down and only used quarter tank of the Devil's Tractor Fluid.
Checked oil level - still good.

My bad.
Teach me to do something when tired.
Hopefully Neil will spot it and move it for me. (Pretty please)

There are also at least two sizes of washer and plug depending on engine number, as I found to my cost. Mine is just on the cusp so I don't want to risk for now.
4 028 103 059 A oil drain plug F >> 4E-6-023 000 M24X1,5 2011.03 - 2002.06
(4) N 0160276 sealing plug F 4E-6-023 001>>M14X1,50 2002.06 - 2010.07

28 N 0138504 o-ring F >> 4E-6-023 000 24X32 2011.03 - 2001.06
(28) N 0138157 o-ring 4 E-6-023 001> 14X20

I assume if yours is so big, it is the M24 version

Only time I’ve lost oil from my D3 was via the sump plug. Numpty National Tyres reused the compression washer. Never again did I use them.

I did have a loss from my old A2 TDi after 800 miles down to France. Topped her up and she never used a drop ever again. Very odd.
