this is why i service things myself

hi guys

service light came on my vehicle a short while ago
rang dealer and asked how much for big service

£499
according to the dealer this includes

oil filter
air filters x 2
oil
spark plugs ( i pointed out its diesel and does'nt have spark plugs)
checks

was'nt happy with this
so bought he genuine parts myself and did the servicing myself

on the d4 to change the air filters you have to remove so aluminium braces for you to access the air filter box

heres what i found when i took lid off

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ff...CniHz5xIIerjeA

doesnt look to me as though these have ever been changed
i have never ever seen as many leaves in an airbox as this and where i live is an open estate there are hardly any trees

checked the part numbers and yes ... sure enough they have been superceded and these are the original part numbers

with the filter removed

and when i had finished and done

all in all
if i do it myself i know its been done properly

It's a shame some garages treat their customers like this, knowing if they are having it done from a garage they are unlikely to open the bonnet.

Name and shame the garage mate

sheffield audi according to the service history
obviously wont be going there for anything whatsoever

Whats the mileage of the car , and what is the dealer recomended service interval of the air filters ? This is what happens with the extended service interval vehicles ....nothing gets done by dealers and by time it is ready for such and such most owners are using independant garges .

I see this stuff all the time ...cars coming from dealerships after 2 / 3 years with all the filters in a right state.

nath 28th November 2016 03:54 PM

car has 66,000 miles on it now
i do around 6,000 a year

car should have major service now at a cost of £500 from dealer
but that didnt include the pollen filter

last service was only a minor one so im assuming only oil and filter changed
that was 12,000 miles ago

did everything myself and decided to replace the front brake discs and pads while i was at it
so whomever buys it now the car should be spot on

Ditto with my D4 albeit a 3.0 TFSI petrol.

Mine had a minor service prior to purchasing in April. As soon as I got it, I did the spark plugs and air filter with OEM parts from TPS. I also did the rear pads and discs. The oil was very clean when I got it so I know at least that was done.

Still another good few months until I need an oil service. Will either get it done at my trusted specialist or Audi under their fixed price regime.

again when i bought my car
the oil was still very very clean ,so had to have been very recently changed

not sure how bad your air filters were but i was and still am amazed at how many leaves and werthers original packets were inside the airbox

i still prefer to do these kind of things myself then i know they have been done
