2000 X Audi A6 2.4
 

My sisters partner has just entered the world of Audi ownership and bought an X Reg A6 2.4 V6 Auto with 4 previous owners and fully documented history.

The car does not look to bad, its got just over 170K on it, but had major engine work at 160K after the cambelt snapped. That repair alone cost the previous owner in excess of £2.5K to repair.

The dealer has replaced one of the front wings as it was badly corroded, the repair is obvious because the wing is slightly the wrong shade.

Car was reasonably priced and they did not pay what it was advertised at.

For the last few weeks the A6 had been acting up with surging idle speed and poor economy and pickup. I scanned the car a month or so back and it had a cam position sensor fault with misfires being reported on bank 1.

Last week a replacement sensor was ordered from ebay, and I installed it today. Engine now runs as sweet as a nut, smoother than he has ever known.

Has the infamous cat efficiency below threshold on banks 1 and 2, and apart from that no mechanical faults.

Only other issues found in a scan was the alarm horn does not work, and the passenger front door does not deadlock.
