Ext AV1 & iPod/AMI video?
In both the 2011 & 2014 D4 MMI 3G+ when you cycle through the sources there is an entry at the bottom of the list for Ext AV1 or something similar.
Does anyone know where this particular input may be located? I remember on my D2 (and D3 I think) you could buy an adaptor that had 3 phonos on one end for right/left audio and composite video and terminated in pins on the other. These pins could be pushed into the multi-pin plug that went into the TV Tuner in the rear of the car to give you up to 2 AV outputs and one AV input. Is this the same on the D4 or is there an AV input lurking somewhere I haven't discovered yet? And on a related note is the AMI input capable of taking a video input? I have an iPod connected in to the AMI connector in the centre console via its Lightning connector but it seems this is only capable of accepting audio. The AMI lead itself has a yellow marker ring at the connector end and so I wondered if there might be a video capable AMI cable? If not then all the more important to track down where the Ext AV1 input might be hiding... Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- |

It was a novelty / curiosity rather than any sort of need..... |
I always thought that AMI meant Audi Music Interface and was therefore audio only, not video.
Of course it could now mean Audi Media Interface? |
Thanks for the replies.
I was hoping I could just use an AMI->Lightning cable of some sort as it would be a much neater solution with video being available at the lightning port. In my 2001 S8 I used to use an Apple 30-pin-> red/white/yellow photos to pass right/left/composite video respectively to the adaptor fitted to the TV Tuner. I also see reference to the AMI->Lightning adaptor with yellow or white tip/grommet as a marker for the AMI end. Any idea what the different colours might signify? And any idea where the Ext AV input might be hiding that is an option in the source list? Thanks & kind regards, -=Glyn=- |
This was the lead I bought, and presume to have worked:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMI-MDI-t...0AAOSwDshZu8Ko I suspect this is where your ext 1 input will appear. For £8.99 I would suggest its worth a punt. I guess combining this with an Apple lighting to Av cable would give the desired result. Whether or not there is a direct apple lightning to AMI with video, I have no idea. Seems a very niche requirement.... |
