Lowering springs and rear callipers/brakes
Hi all, i have just had an mot fail and need to replace a rear calliper(And disk and pads) on one side, so was thinking about what simple bolt on upgrade there is. Can I just check, the d3 w12 is a straight upgrade-correct ? I am running 19 inch wheels...
Also have rust on springs so was thinking of some slightly firmer and a tad lower...any suggestions? Any help appreciated. |
D3 brakes bolt on to D2 A8, but not S8 with Brembos. You'd need to swap to A8 uprights.

I seem to remember that there was an RS6 rear upgrade to go with the D3 S8 or W12 front brake upgrade on a D2? |

C5 RS6 calipers and carriers work on the rear of the D2 when using C6 S6 disks, or if you machine a small amount off the hub you can use original C5 RS6 disks too (crazy money). But, you need A8L handbrake cables which are NLA :( It is possible to space the D2 calipers out to also use the C6 S6 disc, using machined adapters, but I can't find where to buy them and they are non-trivial to make by hand. Thats still D2 calipers though, with their silly postage-stamp pads. |

Sounds like we need to have a forum on new solutions to upgrade D2 rear brakes! its one thing Id still like to have done to mine +++ |
Is it just accepted that the standard S8 D2 brakes are a bit rubbish? It was one of the first things I noticed when I drove my car for the first time. Compared to my A4 of the same year which stopped on a dime.
I've replaced discs, pads, rear callipers, flex brake pipes and sorted the corrosion behind the front calliper slide plates. I've changed the brake fluid using a pressurised bleed tool but they still feel a bit lacking. |
Yes, they’re pretty poor IMHO. And, like3 MJ says, the rear pads (and calipers and discs) just don’t even look the part. Oh for a simple upgrade!
