£700 for gearbox oil/filter change?
Hi all, when cold my gearbox is a bit jumpy changing gears for a a min or so.
So had an ask round an indi garage and was quoted £700 to change the oil (blue) and the filter. That feels like a lot to me? |
Sounds top end. There is a variation though depending on which engine you have.
If you get chance, go to Quick Links and create a signature so folks can see instantly what your car / spec is when asking questions, its speeds things up no end +++ |
Done, thanks ;)

Where are you based?

Ah.... W12 is special transmission fluid, so is 4.2 Tdi I think from memory. They may have quoted you for the good stuff.
It would be interesting to see on the quote how much is labour, how much parts. I wouldn't expect more than an hour or 2 labour.... |

Does seem a bit steep to me.
I'd get a comparative quote from a proper gearbox specialist personally. Even if its a bit further to drive, and not necessarily much cheaper, I'd definitely take my W12 to a transmission specialist for a flush over a regular garage any day of the week.... There's been plenty of horror stories of garages having a go at a flush for the first time.... |
Although I've not dealt with them, A&M in Chelmsford have been established for quite a few years and seem to work on a lot of prestige cars. A couple of people I know have recommended them so it's worth giving them a call and seeing what they say.
http://i63.tinypic.com/10dcepw.jpg I probably wouldn't have got it done there if needed as it's a pretty specialist gearbox but I had a chat to them about doing my D2 S8's gearbox and they seemed to know what they were talking about and said they done a couple of 4.2s before. |
