MacBook Pro 2012
Hi geeks (peeps) due to working from home and my employer waiting for shipment of laptops, I have no choice but to blow the cobwebs of my trusted MBP. it’s the non retina one. I am in the process of upgrading to 16gb ram and ssd. I would also like to purchase external keyboard, mouse and a 24/25 inch monitor. Right this is where I need some pointers please. What resolution can/should I go for? Anyone have spare equipment they need to get rid off?:p+++

I’m using my MBP 2011 for this very same purpose at the moment.
Annoyingly I have to use a virtual machine, that will only run on Windows (I tried and tried on Mac OS). So I have to boot into Windows using Bootcamp, then into a Remote Desktop. A while back I updgraded the RAM, and years ago upgraded to a 1TB SSD. Like you I only have the non retina screen. I have hooked it up to our 48” TV, with an HDMI adaptor. It output at 1080p from memory. Quite the upgrade from a ~720p 13” screen. I’m just thinking out loud, but maybe you could hook yours up to an old TV in similar fashion? Save buying a monitor? |
Thanks John. I had the same issue with login in with our work portal. Had to download app “Remote Desk Top” then the only way was using latest Firefox. Had to delete Chrome as that was just crashing.
I am looking at couple of 25 screens on fleabay as I cant hook on main tv as the daughter off school and missus will have fits without “real housewives of Jersey”:D |

I’ve often thought of replacing it, but it works and my usage doesn’t really warrant an upgrade. I’ve almost looked for reasons to replace it,... Until it breaks, I’m stuck nearly 10 years on! |
