Ticking noice at 1800-2000rpm

Hi.
I have a ticking noice at ca 1800-2000 rpm, the noice is coming when i run on flat ground and have almost no throttle. Also downhill with zero throttle, braking on the gears. Under acceleration, slow and fast i cant hear anything.
Took an comression test all ok, and took of the valve cover, and on the bank 1 syl 1-4 the chain tensioner had a worn groove from the chain and oil around it,outside cover.

Can that be a broken tensioner causing the ticking sound?

Cant hear anything with a stethoscope on the engine.

Hav no fault code on VCDS.
Just changed oil, no difference.
Its the AQH engine.

Or does anybody have another solution on my problem? :)

Hello, could you record a audio clip of the ticking noise please?

These are noisy engines, injectors clicking, active charcoal filter should always be making a ticking/clicking noise also.

Chain tensioner going bad usually results in a loud rattling sound. I would definitely replace those pads before they fail.

I will try to make a audio clip tomorrow :)

Tried to make a soundclip but cound not hear anyting on the clip, due to the exhaust noise :-(

Must be some good exhaust :)

Exhaust is good, hehe
It was hard to get it done alone, and no time before i went to work offshore.
Can try again when i come home with some help :p

I am no expert, and its hard to tell, but it does remind me a little bit of my catalyst rattle. That was also throttle sensitive. Can you get it to make that noise when its parked up by revving it?
My advice is, get under the car, check all heat shields, and give both cats a little whack with a piece of wood or something and listen for any rattles.
At this age the cat rattle is so common it would be my first guess. At least its worth ruling out car rattle or loose heat shield.

Yes i can get that noise when i rev the engine when parked an keep it steady at around 2000 rpm.

the catalyst is changed for 2 years ago but can be broken anyway.
have tried and listn around but it is verry hard to hear where is coming from.

will check the catalyst when i come home again.

Many says it has to be the valve lifters but i think is not when the noise come only on a spesific rpm ?

I really doubt its lifters, because mine has a slight lifter noise from a cold start when the weather is cold, and its most audible straight away from idle and varies with revs.

When my cat broke up, when parked, I could not hear the noise at idle, I had to rev it to around 2000rpm to hear the cat rattling. Also it was more audible when going on throttle or when coming off.

And there can be another complication, when I had my cats removed, there was still a rattling noise! What happened is a small chunk of cat went further down the exhaust and carried on rattling, so only after I changed the exhaust the rattling stopped.
