ATF to change or not to change???

Hi

I have a high miles 4.2tdi. I have good stamps in the book from the Lion Garage Leicester but no actual invoice for work carried out. I have tried contacting them but to no avail.

So should I risk changing the ATF fluid or not?

Your thoughts appreciated.

will follow this as my one has hit 122k and it never had a ATF change. Also its slightly jerky on drive off???+++

Absolutely !!!
Especially if high mileage and you want to keep it for a while.
If no issues with the gearbox at present than just oil and filter change, don’t flush it.
If you have issues then please describe them.

Thanks for your help. No issues at the moment.

Which fluid should I use? Fluid and filter from Audi? What’s the rough cost of parts?

All from Audi or TPS. Labour and parts should come to around £350.

Ok thanks. How much fluid and what type?

G055005A2 - 10l
But wait for others to confirm the part number.

I’ve never been sure what to do for the best. Mine’s on 142k, and is faultless.

Not sure if it’s been changed, imagine not although it had FASH til 100k. Isn’t there a school of thought that it’s not entirely necessary and/or changing to newer fluid needs a SW update to the ‘box’s ECU?

If your gearbox is faultless than it's only recommended to just replace oil like for like with new filter, same spec oil gearbox was filled in at the factory.
I know engine is different, but would you not change the engine oil if it's running faultlessly??
ZF clearly states to replace the oil either after 100,000 or 7 years, which ever is first.

Good point. I do change my oil within every 10k miles. Which is probably overkill with 507.

I just have a niggle, I think I’ve read something somewhere of faults after fluid change with gearboxes.

Edit: I know ZF make them, but don’t Audi et al still suggest they’re ‘sealed for life’?
