Vaguely related to mowing the lawn...

I keep seeing these fans of blade-like leaves appearing in my lawn, they just get mowed assuming it's a weed.
But this year there are loads more and I've let several grow and flower. Looks like some sort of Iris.
Anyone who is more of a gardener than me (i.e. anyone at all!) know what they are?

Apparently it's something called a 'flower'. More info on Wiki here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower

Hope that helps!

Have you thought of replacing Monty Don on Gardener's World, Mark? You seem to have a good feel for this...

Monty who!? Never heard of him.

I think the closest I've come to watching a gardening show was watching Bill and Ben, the Flower Pot Men as a child. If there's one thing that show taught me, it's that there are two types of plants; flowers and "weeeeeeeeds". Admittedly, I'm still not sure how you tell them apart, other than to gauge a lady's reaction as you give her a bunch of either. However, I think a safer indicator is price: If they were free, they're probably weeds; if they cost 60 quid a bunch, they're probably flowers.

Anyway, gardens are for parking your cars on. If you want to see some grass, go for a drive in the countryside. ;)

Somewhat ironically, despite my complete ignorance of all things horticultural, two of my biggest customers are garden centres.

I'm with Steve on this, only thing missing is the colour RED. :D
I'd follow HP's lead and keep mowing the boogers, and keep sparaying the patio.Save</span>

I am sure that Andrew will really be impressed with the help he's got from forum members on this thread. He is obviously thinking over the insightful and helpful suggestions before responding. :) Never let it be said that we are not here to help.
