Amp Component Protection after MMI update

Hi all, I ran the MMI updates last night and now only the left side of the speakers are working in the car.

VAGCOM says the amp is in component protection.

A little read up says dealer only can sort this out, is that true or does anyone have a trick that can fix this?

some say if you run the update again it can fix it, never seen a post from an actual person who has fixed it only a rumour post so to speak

dealer is probably the way forward, charged me £23 was in the dealer for half hour at most.

Thank you.

If a rerun doesn't resolve it (try an MMI reset as well aka 3 finger press) then it'll require a connection back to the motherland to establish the part in CP belongs to the car

One of my local independents now has this capability and charges £15-20 IIRC. Main dealer rates can vary a lot so don't be surprised if one quotes you an hour's labour!

My local Audi want £81 to do the CP reset. Oh well, not the end of the world. Thanks again.

I think its a bit cheeky asking that much - If you are a regular there I would ask if they couldn't discount it a bit considering its less than half an hours work

I got it done for a CD changer once cheapish (£38) during the MOT as they charge 15 minutes labour setup and 15 minutes setdown.
The second time they flat refused for a used instrument cluster for "ethical reasons" and I had it done for about £30 at www.audivwsc.co.uk/

****EDIT they now charge £80!

For reference, VWAudiTec in Chelmsford, Essex can remove component protection.

The V1 of the Bose Amp. - 4E0 035 223A - in the 2003-2005 A8s, which typically had MMI levels below 2120, often goes into CP when performing MMI updates to 5150/5570 due to what I believe is some sort of 'bug' in the original configuration of that amp. My Bose went into CP in 2009 when I did my upgrade, but fortunately the Audi dealer fixed it free, as a courtesy.

I believe that you need access to ODIS to remove CP; in the era when MMI 2G updates were made available, only Audi dealers could do that but various 'trusted' 3rd party dealers [as described by others above] now have ODIS, so they can do it too.

You didn't say where you are but my local Audi Specialists in Ashford, East Kent can do it.

Julian
