LED Glovebox Pre Order

6 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

Spurred on by Audifan's glovebox light problems I've designed an LED replacement:

This just clips in place of the original and production versions (should there be a demand for such a thing) would be plug and play with the factory wiring. The LEDs have a 50,000 hour life so it should be fit and forget and outlast the car :D The LEDs also come in warm white (to match filament interior lighting) or pure white (to match LED interior lighting).

Is there a market for such a thing? It'd come out at £25 posted.

moltuae 14th August 2020 09:24 AM

Excellent!+++

Put me down for one! :)

HPsauce 14th August 2020 09:36 AM

Probably better (and brighter) than my current LED install that may not last, so I'd be interested in a pure white one.

Nognar 14th August 2020 11:37 AM

Count me in also +++

My S8 has the need for one with the current light cover "Flapping" about a little.

Stromaluski 14th August 2020 01:31 PM

I'd take one, as well. +++

craig 14th August 2020 06:07 PM

That's one for me 2 👍😁

Audifan 14th August 2020 11:20 PM

Awesome job on a replacement! Count me in for a pure white one.

MikkiJayne 15th August 2020 07:10 AM

Thanks guys :) I'll get making more +++

RICKY D 15th August 2020 11:53 AM

Put me down for one please +++:D

Looks really good MJ. Nice work

Architex_mA8tey 17th August 2020 02:57 PM

Pure white here please! +++

Nognar 17th August 2020 03:54 PM

I can see future adverts for D2s and the key question list has grown.

1) Has the gearbox had evidence of being serviced/ repaired/ or replaced?
2) When was the timing belt last completed?
3) Does the car have the MJ Glovebox light upgrade?

HPsauce 17th August 2020 04:06 PM

Let me fix that for you:

Shouldn't that list also include...

5) Does the car have the MJ replacement DIS menu button?
6) Does the car have the MJ brake master cylinder brace?

HPsauce 17th August 2020 07:22 PM

Still waiting on availability for option 6 though...… ;)

Sounds like you would also need a sticker on the driver side, saying:
MJ Edition :yippee:
Like my Jeep has the Limited sticker ;)

Me too, option 6 - 3D printed part for brake block. Any updates on availability, MJ?

MikkiJayne 2nd October 2020 08:15 AM

I need one person to beta-test the glovebox light for me in return for feedback please. Who is interested?

johnny_quattro 2nd October 2020 12:40 PM

me me me brigade

I suppose that I'm as good a candidate as anyone! I do have a dangling light enclosure that I've kept quiet about and never bothered to fix. I don't think mine is broken though, simply come loose but I'm sure I'll be proved wrong on that front.

I'll send a PM, cheers MJ

The_Laird 2nd October 2020 03:03 PM

I’d be happy to help with a beet test too.

Ronin 5th October 2020 09:05 AM

YES YES YES sign me up and take my money!!+++++++++++++++

MikkiJayne 16th October 2020 04:12 PM

Beta testing done +++ It is fiddly but possible to fit the light without removing the glovebox **as long as the original terminals are intact**. If the glovebox wires or terminals are broken the glovebox needs to come out to repair them. I can include repair wires if needed, on request.

I'm now taking pre-orders from you guys before they go on general sale :) Remember these are available in two colours: warm white if you have filament lamp interior illumination, and cool white if you have LED interior illumination. The price is £25 inc postage for either version.

Please stick your name below, which colour you would like, and whether you need repair wires:

spannerrash 17th October 2020 11:29 AM

I'll take one please. Warm white.

So yes, please put me down for a pure white version. I seem to recall I extended my wiring anyway last time I had the glovebox out so no repair wires required.

Cool white installed in Big Red:

For clarity, this is "Yes I will definitely take one of the first batch please", rather than an expression of interest as I have to order the LEDs, which I will be doing on Monday +++

Happy to send you the payment right away if you like? I already have you in my PayPal contacts (assuming PayPal is the preferred method?).

spannerrash 17th October 2020 05:17 PM

Understood, let me know how you want payment.
Cheers Frank

It’s much more helpful if you copy and paste the list, and add your name to it. That way, Michaela has an order list, rather than having to wade through all the posts

HPsauce 18th October 2020 05:24 PM

Maybe Audifan has deliberately not done that as he's not in UK? ;)
Michaela didn't say if she was offering the pre-orders only to the UK but it's something to consider?

Ok guys thank you. I'm ordering the requisite LEDs today and will start printing the housings +++

Could you send payment (£25) to mj@d2doctor.co.uk please, and make sure you include your address in the note as Paypal doesn't always pass that through. I'll update the thread when they are built and shipping :)

tintin 19th October 2020 09:10 AM

tintin - warm too please (if not too late for you to add to your order...;) )
