It was time to tidy up the wheels

The 20" FE wheels on the S8 had been diamond cut a couple of times over the years.

As lovely as they looked new the finish never lasted and hence were starting to look a little rough round the edges. So dropped the old girl into Apex Wheels in Gloucester for a refurb and some Silver Sparkle powder coat.

Now looking a little more presentable.

Nice wheels, but just wondering about the centre cap fit. :tuttut:

Are they OEM or Chinese copies, my memory may be fading but I'm sure mine (going back on soon for summer) are more of a flush fit?

I have noticed this too - it comes from too many diamond-cuttings. But its nature, the process involves cutting material from the face of the wheel. After a few times the wheel gets noticeably thinner, but the centre cap still sits in the same place. One set of mine has the little fillet at the side of the spokes almost completely machined away so the centre caps look like they're about to fall out!

The fillet should extend all the way to the centre (red arrow) but on these it's almost gone. On mine the fillet is almost gone by the orange arrow!

I have taken the OEM caps off and will restore those at some point. Though the before picture is with the OE centre caps which are still a little proud.

The wheels have £20 eBay ones on now to tidy things up, but indeed some surface has been removed over the years with a couple of diamond cuts.

Hence one of the reasons I just got them dipped, stripped and coated.

I should have noticed the loss off the fillets.... :o

The diamond cutters near me, when selling me their services recently, were fairly explicit about how little they can remove (even at the edges) and how they blend in so that almost nothing is lost at the centre and caps still meet properly.
