September Mini-Meet (Matlock, Derbyshire)

1 Attachment(s)
Sunday 13th September.

11:00am - Meet up and Critch Tramway Village

I'm told that the "top of the car park (past the Admissions building) should be cordoned off" for us so that we can all park together.

If you arrive later than 11:00 (and we've already gone inside) just explain to the admissions desk that you're with the "A8 and S8 UK Owners Group" so that you get the group discount. If they ask for a password, it's 'Quattro'.

https://www.tramway.co.uk

Info from Critch:
Quote:

On arrival, please pay at the admissions desk. We accept cash, debit or credit card (except American Express).

You will need to book a timed tram ride ticket on arrival and face coverings should be worn for tram rides unless under 11 years or exempt (same guidelines as for public transport).

Please read the attached Crich Tramway Village Covid-19 Guidelines prior to visiting.
(File is attached to this post).

Face coverings are required in all the indoor areas.

We suggest allowing 3 - 4 hours for your visit.

Group Admission prices (based on a minimum of 10 people) for 2020 are:
Adults & Seniors: £11.50
Less Abled: £11:50
Child (aged 4-15): 8:00
Carers: One per person admitted free of charge
Children under 4 years admitted free of charge.

4.30pm - Leave Critch for a scenic drive to Biggin Hall

6.00pm - Evening Meal at Biggin Hall

https://www.bigginhall.co.uk/restaurant.html

We will be dining in the library (recently converted into a dining area), which has been reserved exclusively for our group. There should be sufficient tables for us all to dine together while maintaining sufficient social distancing between different 'households'.

Me and the good lady are very interested! Not too far from us

moltuae 18th August 2020 03:27 PM

+++

It would be great to see you both there, Jim :)

I'm going to make enquiries about a group booking if there's enough interest.

tintin 18th August 2020 06:07 PM

I'll be there!

Looking forward to this - a great chance to catch up and have an overdue opportunity to chew the fat and talk some car bollocks +++.

Is it worth starting an attendee list? If so, I'm a definite :D

Probably, if only to know whether we qualify for Crich's group discount (which requires 10 or more people I believe).

Shall I start? :)

  1. Moltuae +1 (2 Adults)

briang9 18th August 2020 08:00 PM

Think we could be "possibles" to attend, depends on some other "stuff". Any idea of start and finish times Mark?

moltuae 18th August 2020 08:12 PM

Not really decided yet, Brian, so open to suggestions ..

But I'm thinking maybe meet around 11am at Critch, spend a few hours there (inc lunch), then maybe late afternoon (for anyone who wants to stay a little longer) we could take a scenic drive/convoy to a nice eatery somewhere for dinner (Biggin Hall perhaps?).

tonupkid 18th August 2020 09:01 PM

I am just a few miles from Crich and desperate for any excuse to get out in the new 8. So that's a yes from me & the missus

I've had a reply from Critch about the possibility of a group booking ...

Their group discount policy seems a little odd -- Car and driver get in for free, passengers pay -- if I'm, reading that correctly?

EDIT: I think they may be assuming we're a qualifying (pre-1980) vintage car club, wishing to drive through the the village. I'll ask for clarification.

Anyway, it looks like we need to pre-book, so I need numbers ASAP please :)

Quote:

Dear Mark

Further to your enquiry below, we have a provisional booking for another car club on that date, but I have contacted them to ask if they are going ahead. I will let you know the outcome.

In the meantime I attach some information. It does need to be pre-booked and if the club are able to stay on site for a minimum of 3 hours, we offer free admission for the vehicle and driver and group rates for passengers, which are currently £11.50 for adults and seniors and £8.00 for children aged 4 -1 5 years.

We would need final numbers of vehicles and passengers by the Wednesday before your visit.

I attach the information you need prior to visiting. As you are aware we have to make changes to the way we normally operated due to Covid-19 and the information is in the guidance notes attached.

Regards

Amanda Blair

I wonder who the other car club are ...

Email attachments received are attached below, inc COVID info and a site map.

Are non-Audis allowed?

We finally exchanged contracts today, will have the keys to the double garage (with some house or other attached) in 11 days

I nearly had to borrow a pushbike but common sense prevailed.

Mark us down as possibles for now then - we're probably be glad of a little break from sorting the house out.

Could do getting some advice from you too about whether I install a mesh WiFi or go with a wired network in the new place.

Looking for connectivity for general use, TV/Movies, security & CCTV

moltuae 22nd August 2020 04:43 PM

No problem Sarg. I might be turning up in, ahem, 'something else' myself yet. My S8 is in storage these days and could be having some work done at the time of the meet. Personally, I see mini-meets as a gathering of owners and friends - a chance to catch up - rather than a gathering/showing of our cars.

As for WiFi and networking, you can't go wrong with UniFi's stuff, especially if you're looking to install CCTV too. For home use, take a look at their Cloud Key Gen 2 and Dream Machine units. I'll have a chat with you about it if you manage to make it to the meet.

WHAT? Mark, shame on you! :tuttut: Maybe we should turn up in Christine’s diesel mini to keep costs down?

We might pop along in this...though on second thoughts there's not enough room for SWMBO clothes :o

I'm with Mark on this one - when he, Ray & I were discussing this the plans for this meet, we agreed that this is less of a show meet, and more of a natter and catch-up with friends, which I think we've all missed this year.

So I too may turn up on something a bit more curvaceous than Herman too - variety is the spice of life, as they say +++

I know :-( But there's a dozen jobs I need to do on it before I put too many more miles on it, not least the cam chain tensioners and a pesky oil leak right at the back of the engine that's been getting worse. I'm hoping to have it all done in time for the next annual meet however.

And as long as you bring yourself and Christine, it'll be great to see you both no matter what you decide to turn up in. I'd actually quite like to see your TT but it would be nice to see your S8 again of course +++

Sorry for "thread creep" but we stayed in a place near Lucca few years ago where the owner had lovingly restored these, stunning machines they were and you could just feel how much he cared for them when talking to him. Really nice old gent he was.

I love the occasional ‘thread creeps’ :)

How do you start with an A8 meet in Matlock and get to restored scooters in Italy? Brilliant!

We are a diverse group of eccentrics.

Looks like there will only be two 8s there, mine and Nicks.
As already stated it's a "we need to see each other" meet.

If Neil doesn't also roll up in one of his 8's my ghast will be truly flabbed.
Might be a great opportunity to meet and chat, but lets not forget its an opportunity to enjoy our motors

Indeed - there could be more Fiats than Audis  , which would make it a unique meet for our lot - though I doubt that will actually happen, in practice ;) ...

And mine! We won’t be in the mini or the TTS (which still needs a good deal of, largely, cosmetic work before I show it off).
