Mannyo - 2004 D3 3.7 Work in progress
Seeing as their are several project threads, here is mine.
This is a small thread about my recently acquired 2004 pre facelift D3 3.7 Quattro. As well as the standard kit, mine also has the following. Solar Sunroof Bose surround sound Audi fixed phone in armrest, with sim card slot 4 zone climate control Analogue TV Electric boot open/close ACC cruise control with widescreen DIS Keyless go/entry with fingerprint reader Comfort seats with driver/passenger memory Rear seats with lumbar adjustment Front/rear parking sensors 19" wheels Now the bad bits. Upon scanning with VCDS there were a lot of fault codes, however the car had been standing for a long time. The dealer has had the car for 12 weeks, he was waiting for the cherished plate to be transferred from the car before he sold it. The faults appeared to relate to low battery. The exhaust has a slight blow from one of its joints, nothing serious (I hope) and did not cause the car to fail its MOT in August. The same advisory was on the previous MOT in 2011, so it seems to not be getting worse. 4 tyres need replacing, Moving on, in the 2 months since getting the car a number of issues became apparent. I'll list these along with their current state in the next post. |
in my ownership so far,
I have replaced the battery as it soon became apparent that the installed one was dead. A suspension fault reared its head, later tracked to water ingress in a level sensor, but this also revealed the compressor to be weak and only outputting about 6bar. Now onto the list. 1) Sort out battery captive nut so the battery can be secured down - Completed 30-12-2013 2) Replace cambelt / tensioners/ water pump/ thermostat / Aux Belt - Completed *7/01/2014 (except water pump, seized bolts in head) 3) Replace all four tyres - TBA 4) Have MMI screen mechanism fixed, common issue because of cog with missing tooth (works fine, just clicks on open/close)*- TBA 5) Intake manifold variable flaps need fixing - TBA (low priority TBH) 6) Have exhaust flexi joints sorted - Completed 3/03/2014 7) Sort suspension issue out. Either wiring / sensor or compressor. Hopefully the first one, but knowing my luck it will be the last - Fixed 07/01/2014 8) Have suspension air compressor rebuilt using repair kit - Fixed 21/01/2014 9) Upgrade MMI firmware from Version 3.50 to Version 57.50 - Completed 14/01/2014 10) Replace Alarm Siren to remove VCDS Code - Completed 18/01/2014 11) Fix parking sensors, front nearside is dead - Completed 01/03/2014 Still plenty of things to do, but getting there. Other outstanding issues which may never be fixed, NS rear passenger footwell heater is dead. Both front door handle touch sensors are reporting short to ground. |
Mannyo,
It's been great reading all your updates! Seriously impressive and I'm sure it will benefit many of us in time to come! Oli |
I'm off to Harrow tomorrow, to Audivwsc who are going to measure up for two custom made flexi joints. They have already replaced them on M-A8's car, but lost the drawings and measurements. Once thats done the joints will be custom made, and fitted to the car in a week or so. That will be number 6 on my list completed, leaving just the tyres on the urgent list.

Good stuff man yo, these 8s are labour of love.

Quick update,
Exhaust joints should be sorted next week. Replacement joints measured, ordered and made, should be with AudiVW Specialist Centre early next week. I have a HVAC error for the recirculation flap motor under the bonnet, luckily the flap motor failed in the open position so I have fresh air in the cabin. Need to replace that motor at some point. Nearside Front parking sensor has intermittent fault, guess it will fail fully in the future. Still need to get some tyres. |
Keep it up Manny +++, not a lot left, it's more about time as they do take most of our life ;)
In regards to tyres, I do strongly recommend Toyo's http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7293 |
Parking sensor eventually died, purchased genuine new one from ebay and fitted today so sensors all now working properly again.
Also fixed a small issue with the air suspension intake/exhaust pipe where a joint had come apart with the result it was creating unwanted sound on compressor start/stop. Exhaust being fixed Monday, so I should for the first time in 3 months have a much quieter car. |
List updated in post number 2,
Only thing outstanding that needs attention now are the tyres. Then perhaps the dead HVAC recirculation flap under the bonnet, and seized intake flaps. |
Nice thread mannyo.
