SDS Hammer drill - Go cheap or branded?
I have few more demolition jobs around the house, especially an over engineered blocked fireplace that I'm reopening for a woodburner, and an SDS hammer drill with chisel would be a great addition.
I'm thinking of going cheap. Such as this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251951964259 And if it dies after a year or so that's ok with me. Or are their any merits to go with a branded Hammer Drill, like this one? http://www.bosch-professional.com/gb...-d-8472-ocs-p/ Cheers +++ |
The main difference you're paying for there is the latter is a rotary SDS. If you've got a decent normal drill then the cheapo ones should be fine. I've got a Screwfix/Titan one I've used a handful of times and it's worked well - it is blinkin' heavy but I guess it needs to be to work!

+1 on the titan, I have abused mine and its still kicking

+2 on the Titan. Mine's demolished fireplaces with ease but as Adrian says, its a heavy piece of gear.

Looks like I'm off to Screwfix to pick up the Titan +++
A pretty hard concrete mix was used, and it's solid! No stress fractures anywhere when it was used from the heat. Hopefully the Titan can make easy work of the fireplace. |
Get the sledge hammer on it, great stress relief

Normally yes. That fireplace is on the party wall and they're a bit of a complainer... maybe I should just sledge it out

Haha they will hate the sds hammer more, that sound travels far.

I have the same cheapo Wolf one you linked to. Bought it a year or so ago. It's only had occasional use, but so far it's been great.
I find it better to check out products on Amazon rather than FleaBay since Amazon's reviews are product-based not seller-based. The Wolf does get very good reviews generally: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Heavy-Rotary...dp/B00AZZYLGO/ Quote:

Had Titan products-never lasted longer then a month
I do have Dewalt sds and drill - 9 years and they are being abused |
