Whats in the workshop - 03 plate D2

Hi folks,

I thought I'd start a thread on this one to gauge if there's any interest on the forum for it. I acquired this from Dean when I did Big Red, and now I need to fix it and sell it, ironically to make room for Big Red! I was going to break it, but I just can't do it. Notwithstanding being cat-D, its a good car, plus its an 03 plate and there aren't many of those around. This is more about saving a D2 than making any money. Its a shame it doesn't have its original 20" wheels though.

I've been pinching parts from it, so need to put those all back. Plus we pinched the exhaust and a few other bits for big red, so need to put those back too. There's the rear quarter to paint, the lacquer is peeling on the front bumper, and the sunroof seems to be broken.

Pic dump:

Concours by Friday then?

I reckon yeah :hammer:

Just checking the paperwork I see it had timing belt, water pump and thermostat, and gearbox service in November 2015 so I don't need to do any of that.

The engine is only leaking from the cam covers which is a nice bonus for a 2.8, so I can check the cam tensioner pads while it's open.

It's good you will repair the car. And hopefully it will find a good home later :)
And of course, it will be interesting to follow your progress +++

It'll be interesting to see just how little damage resulted in a Cat 4 write off!
Unless Dean covered this elsewhere of course!

It was probably this little sprag at the back of the wheel arch that sealed it's fate :(

My local tig expert will fix that for beer vouchers though +++ It'll probably get the whole lower quarter painted up to the body line. The bumper might polish to an acceptable standard.

I had to read up on what category write offs are.

Cat C is where the car is repairable but is not economic to do so. What Audi told me about my car.

Cat D is where the vehicle is repairable and would be economic to do so (cost of salvage + cost of repairs < Pre accident value) but the insurance company has decided not to repair the vehicle. This could be due to excessive storage or recovery costs, etc.
Is this what happened to this car; as

Cat C is when there was (or could be) structural damage, now called "S".

Cat D is non structural, now called "N".

Both are not economical to repair, taking into account all associated costs.
