Original highly polished bare aluminium look
Ok, ive seen some pics of the original D2 A8 looking like a shiny delorean.
Has anyone got any info or links to this? How did they get the plastics that shiny??! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=au...ml%3B591%3B381 |
Looks like a chrome wrap to me, but I'm a layman. Someone who knows more will be along shortly

Chemical plating would be my guess, similar process to making shiny chrome shower heads for example.
I had an old drum machine plated like this - seemed like a good idea at the time. |
I think that the original D2 one was done by audi by polishing the aluminium body to raise the PR stakes in pointing out it was an aluminium bodied car. Later ones seem to be wraps with chrome wrap over the whole car. The trim on the original D2 was probably bespoke made to match from aluminium and also polished. It was way befor wraps were used

You mean /this/ car. Complete with dodgy looking Yorkshire enthusiast peering in through the drivers windows +++
On display in the Audi Forum museum, Ingolstadt, Germany. Built originally for the Chinese Motor Show 1994 for the release of the D2. Manual, red leather. Avus alloys. (3 years ahead of the S8 interestingly). Black Optics. Locked. And a diesel judging by downward exhaust tips.

Thanks for the pics. From what ive read it was a diesel. Has anybody ever tried to do this to theirs?
|
Yes, diesel tailpipes but I think it was a body only - iirc there was no engine in it....
