Using car ramps
Silly question but I just want to make sure. I want to get my car up on floor ramps in the next week or so but am unsure whether to put it in jack mode before going up or after?

As soon as you move jacking mode switches off so you don't really have a choice.

Ah ok, thanks. I've never tried moving it in jack mode and didn't want to try it either. Well, that answers the question, thanks again.

Jacking mode before you lift the car up in order to lock the suspension travel, otherwise the strut will just keep extending and you'll need a trolley jack with a huge range to get the wheel off the ground (there is a lot of travel in that suspension) -- not a problem if driving it on to a flat workshop ramp obviously but still should be in jacking mode when wheels are being lifted off the ground. I've read a horror story on another forum of a mechanic jacking it up whilst not in jacking mode, then letting off the trolley jack in one quick turn of the handle so the car was dumped back on terra firma and it blew the air strut on that corner.

Just to update, I purchased the ramps below. I struggled to find anything that was wider that was wider than 260mm and whilst the car could go on them, I prefer the ramp to be wider than the tyres
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I paid just over £50 with some Prime day discounts and I am very happy with them. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0 |
