Jack stand location
Where is the best place to set the jack stands on these cars without doing damage? I want to lift up the front of the car and place jack stands underneath the car so I can remove both front wheels because this will help me remove the fasteners for the front bumper. I'm ready to do work on the engine and I need to put the front end in the service position so I have room to get my socket and wrench on the crank bolt so I can hand rotate the engine to do the valve spring replacement.

You can remove front bumper without doing that. Just remove the under tray if you have it, few clips holding the front wheel arch liners to the bumper and bumper itself is held with 2 Allen bolts located behind the grilles of the bumper

You can put them under the rear subframe mounting bolts. That's a good hard-point which will support the full weight. Don't use the subframe itself - that isn't strong enough.

Stick a block of wood on it then. You don't really want the weight on the aluminium plate as thats not very strong, so the bolt head itself is best point.

I'll keep that in mind when I use the jack stands. I eventually want to buy these jack stands to replace the ones that I have.

I didn't use my jack stands. I just used my floor jack to get the wheel off the ground and took off the wheel to remove the liner and reinstalled the wheel.
LH wheel arch liner has some damage. Anyone have the part number for this plastic fastener? http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652625372 Missing hardware. http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652625372 RH wheel arch liner damaged and missing hardware. http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652625372 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652625372 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652625372 |

The following image should help in identifying all the relevant fasteners required. Based on the image, these are the associated part numbers, and how many you require per side. Note that these totals are for both parts of the wheel arch liner on either side of the car, and not just the front part. I've also attached images of what the part numbers look like in reality.
And yes, part numbers 12 and 14 are the same. Must be an Audi thing! #10 - 171201969 - Hexagon collar nut (8 per side) #12 - N90250001 - oval head panel screw (2 per side) #14 - N90250001 - oval head panel screw (1 per side) #15 - 4D0807300 - Spreader rivet (4 per side) #16 - 443821699 - Clip (2 per side) #17 - 811807577C - insert nut (1 per side) http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1652691603 |
