Navigation Maps - M20 J10A on the latest? ...

1) Is there anyone looking at this forum any more? :D

2) If so, has anyone got the latest 2020 or 2020/2021 maps?

I'm on the relatively recent 2018/2019 maps but I live in Kent about 400 yards from the new M20 J10A which was 'completed' last December.

[M20 J10A is an addition to the original M20 J10, about 1/4 mile nearer to Folkestone with a completely revised road layout between them].

Is it possible to determine whether or not J10A is on the 2020 and/or 2020/2021 maps?

Regards - Julian

I'm still here Julian but have no idea on the map scene. Sorry

Is it definitely 10A and not 11A? Just looking on Google Maps and can see the latter, but not the former. If Google Maps hasn't been amended to reflect a recent change, it's a definite that the nav maps from Audi won't feature the new junction.

I have 2020 maps on my S5 and 2020/21 on my Golf, so if you can confirm junction number I'll try and have a look when I've got the cars to hand.

Hi Adrian; it's definitely J10A +++

Attached is a current map from Google Maps on Windows:

J10 - top left
J10A - bottom right
New Roundabout - bottom left

The A2070 used to run direct to J10 with no roundabout. It now runs to both J10 & J10A via the new roundabout.

My 3G+ 2018/9 map shows the old route ...

Regards - Julian

PS Is the S5 you have running 3G+

Hiya

OK, will have a proper look tomorrow

The S5 is on 3G high, but the maps files themselves are the same for 3G+ +++

Have checked again on the maps on both cars - the S5 is running 6.30.1 2020 maps. The Golf is running the half yearly 2020/21 maps. Neither feature the new junction 10A layout, so no point updating specifically for that I'm afraid

Hi Adrian; thanks for checking that out. I note that the 6.31.1 2020/2021 maps are out for the 3Ghigh/plus system but it looks like that won't contain it either based on your Golf maps

Looks like you saved me a load of money as that was the only trigger to update my relatively recent 2018/2019 maps.

It's very strange though as the road layout's been in place for over a year and in use for over 10 months. I wonder at what stage the road layout change is communicated to whoever looks after mapping data.

There's usually a 12 month lag between changes to the road network being reflected in base maps by e.g. OS. Add 6 months for whoever compiles those changes into a map database for Audi/VW, and possibly another 6 months for the change to be compiled into a revised map database......

The likes of Google Maps (and Waze, which Google now own) update based on user data, which shows a sufficient volume of vehicles doing strange manoeuvres where no road appears to exist, and then send out a survey vehicle to check what has changed. Hence they're much quicker to update.

A bit off topic but Google Maps seem to be more up to date with new roads/ layouts than Waze but Waze responds faster to traffic/accidents, especially when traffic clears up.

I just bought and installed the 2021 maps and MMI update. I think my original map was 2016. Don't know if it's any better yet as i have not had a chance to go anywhere. I do know that on my original map when i drove to Newcastle that on a few occasions my sat-nav thought i was driving through a field. This was because they have upgraded the A1M and needed to install some new sections of road. The next time i go there i should know if my update is any better.

I think my one is still 2015 been meaning to do the upgrade as google earth no more. Where did you get your copy from?+++

Adrian E 22nd January 2021 09:07 AM

6.31.1 are 2020/21 maps (so the 'half way through the year' update) - same map my S5 has installed.

The maps files are available online from various hooky sources, but require an activation file as well. Mostly when done once you don't need to re-activate for future map updates.

@H-M3 - I can still help you out with yours +++

Not sure when Audi are stopping updates for these systems, as I'd expect full 2021 maps to have been out since October '20 but suspect they've not released.

Just when i thought my update was going so well !. Everything works ok with my new update and my map now shows the new roads near to where i live. But i have a problem and i only found out by sitting in the back of my car. My RSE ( rear seat entertainment ) also needs updating as it must use a separate navigation system. The rear passengers can set destinations in the nav then transfer the route to the driver in the front. Also the rear passengers can take full control of the media system and play/watch whatever they want.
The problem is that my new update disks don't seam to be compatible with the RSE. Does anyone know if i require different update disks ? Also my RSE shows on it's display that it has its own SD card slot, does anyone know where i would find this and is this the slot that i would use to update the system ?

Hi Darren

It looks like you need to run a separate update on the RSE - possibly using the same files you already have on SD card?

There's button presses to use in the back outlined at the link below:

https://upgrademyaudi.net/tutorials/...-audi-mmi/#rse

ETA - I think the RSE units themselves have SD card slots for playback, but I'm betting you just need to have the files in the front SD card slot for it to recognise them as being there when you do the button presses to get into the red engineering menu from the rear seats

Wow; that was quick!

Yes, that's what the road system is like now.

I presume that's the 2021 map but I don't recognise the mapping format; I presume the S5 is different than the A8?

Thanks - Julian

Adrian E 20th July 2021 07:13 AM

Mine’s a B8 S5 so that’s MMI 3G rather than 3G+

I couldn’t find a way to get to the junction apart from by scrolling across the map with the tiny thumb mouse on top of the click wheel 😂

They are 2021 maps on it

JulianHicks 4th February 2022 07:27 PM

A quick final note to say that I acquired the 2021 maps and they are successfully installed and showing the Ashford map layout as above ...
