My first D2 - a silver on black A8 3.7 quattro.

A Polo G40. So much fun, try finding one these days :(

Practically of them...

...but I've not had many, 'cos I find letting go very hard :-(.

So, a short list of 3:

1) VW Beetle (3 of them!) - from my student days,
2) Fiat Uno 45S - first new/family car, fun and totally reliable (like all my Fiats ;) ),
3) Volvo 850SE Estate - the nearest thing to my Tesla, in that it could do just about anything you asked of it, with zero fuss. Persuaded by my (soon-to-be-ex ) wife to get rid of it, rather than fix it, post-MOT fail. Regretted that ever since ,and still looking for another one...

The only cars I don't regret parting with were a few dull company cars, mostly Peugeot 405s, but also some truly sh*te pool cars (e.g. a Rover 216...)

The only brand new car I’ve ever had - my 2005 Seat Leon Cupra R 225 in dark grey.

Sunbeam Imp Sport 930cc - it was a bitsa special

Ford Cortina 1600E - unfinished resto my dad bought. Had 80s upgrades like an electric sliding sunroof and electric windows, but a fair bit of rot in the chassis legs. Would’ve made an awesome resto-mod with a 16v engine and proper steering

a 1.9tdi skoda octavia with 90hp and manual AC....
there was something magical about the sound of that engine plus it was so cheap to own i never felt afraid of parking or leaving it anywhere

1975 Ford Cortina 2000E
1977 Ford Escort RS2000 (Pinto engines infinitely tuneable!)
Renault 21 Savanna - Yeh yeh but it was fun, utterly reliable, could carry all sorts of stuff and there was always bits falling off it so that was totally amusing as well.
E36 M3 - didnt treat it very well, sold for peanuts
E39 M5 - Didn't appreciate what it really was until it was gone. The only car I really miss :( - apart from recently parting with my Audi A8 2.8 Quattro Sport.

Easy as I've never really had any 'feelings' towards a car other than the D2 (for various reasons).

'08 Suzuka Grey S8 - When you're spending 1/3 of your yearly income on tax and insurance just to keep it road legal, it had to go. Would buy it back in a heartbeat if I had the funds.

I don't tend to regret selling cars, as they are usually being replaced by something better.

There was the Capri ll 1600XL White with black vinyl roof, that had to go to provide a house deposit. And as the new owner drove off in it my SO was in tears.
Out of a huge number of cars I had much fun with a Cortina 2000 GT 2 door. And later with a Granada Ghia 2.8i manual. But I don't regret selling them.

The only car that comes close is, funnily enough, my 2002 D2 S8. It came to me much abused and left me in pretty much perfect condition. It's still out there somewhere VA02 UAR.
I shudder to think what 'mods' it might have since suffered.

Saab 9000 CSE 2.3 lpt. Loved everything about that car. If I hadn't gone down the D2 ownership route I'd have bought another 9000.

Vauxhall Cavalier CD 1.7 TD. Underrated car & good engine. I hated myself for selling this because the sack of s**t Vectra I replaced it with turned into the worst car I've ever owned.

The only brand new car I've ever ordered and paid for myself (had loads of new company cars) which was RLH842R a 1976 Tahiti Blue Triumph Dolomite 1850HL with overdrive.
The tin worm got it, despite underseal etc. and after I sold it it didn't last much longer. :-(

I've seen some similar ones at various shows that have survived another 40 years though!
