S8 windscreen washers dead
Don't drive my S8 often these days, if it's a dry day then I'll cycle to work locally.
Anyway, I went to spray the windscreen washers today when I drove it today, and... nothing. The wipers still do the 3 wipes but no fluid sprays out and there is no sound from the motor like there usually is. :( Can anyone suggest where to start investigating next? |
Probably sounds too simple when you are expecting the worst, but... have you tried the fuses?
|
Oh yeah I should have added, I've checked the 5A fuse for the 'heated washer jets' (swapped it with another) and it didn't fix anything.
|
Probably a different fuse for the motor itself I think+++
|
The windscreen washers are sprayed from a pump connected to the wiper motor control unit. As the wipers work it's not a relay or fuse. Check the wiring from the wiper motor unit, pin 3 grey red wire, with a multimeter if you can. It could be a dead pump, faulty wiring or bad earth point.
Is there a logged fault in 09-Central Electrics? |
Take the easy options first.
Are you sure there is screenwash in the tank, my headlight washer motor does not work when the screenwash is low for example. Are the jets blocked, I seem to need to clear mine on a regular basis. Only on the Audi though, the Volvo is always fine. |

Had a similar problem and new pump solved it +++ |
No vaults logged related to it or any electrics on VCDS.
Plenty of fluid in the tank but when pulling the wipers stalk there is no noise from the motor like there usually is. I do have the problem whereby the tank does a wee and empties itself for no apparent reason but I've never had no life from the washer motor before. http://i67.tinypic.com/2z9b7lh.jpg Does it have any link to the headlight switch by the way? Recently did the mod to fit a chrome headlight switch so had to take the unit apart to fit that but I doubt that that is related? |

The command flow is as so: >The stalk is connected to the steering wheel ECU >A CAN message is broadcast when the stalk is pressed >Message read by J519 09-Cent. Elect. via CAN >Cent. Elect. sends a LIN command to J400 Control Module for Wiper Motor >The wiper motor module sends +12v to the pump, fluid is sprayed, from the pump the cable goes to earth point, lower part of right A-pillar |
My money is still on there being another fuse, but don't have a D3 any more to check
