Fitting a straight pipe (3.7 V8)
Hi all,
I'm looking into increasing the sound from my A8, so would removing the centre silencers and fitting a straight through pipe achieve this? The V8 burble I've got at the moment is just a bit too sedate! Removing the rear silencers would make it too loud I think. And am I also correct in assuming it will still pass an MOT as long as the cats aren't removed? Thanks  |
Architex matey has removed the back box and his 3.7 sounds the mutts. When I removed the center box on my S8 I got resonance at town speeds. Motorway speed were fine but the was a bit more intrusion in the cabin.

Get along to the annual meet next month and hear it in person!!
the sound with straight pipe and no back box is sublime! :D I'll try and take some more video when i get the chance - there is some resonance on mine at around 2500 rpm but otherwise its ok. In a perfect world you would fit a system with valves that can be actuated so you get the best of both worlds but mine was a relatively cheap mod for the awesome sound it makes +++ |
Hmm I well come along to the next meet.
Would removing the centre silencers have a bad effect on back pressure? Or would it be good to just install a bigger intake? |

Video from when we first fitted it is HERE I'm hoping to have the 390mm W12/Bentley Front Discs on by then with some Bentley Covers so you can see if you like the size! +++ |
Car booked in next week to have all silencers removed apart from the rear most boxes where the exhaust tips are attached
Getting it done by AMD - www.amdtuning.com They seem quite competent and work on a lot of Audis going by their gallery. |
