If it's anything like mine you need to pop the caps out of the toolbox no gain access to the screws once that's removed you will find the cover is clipped all the way round, I forced my fingers inbetween the opening and the bootlid that the toolbox fits into and just pull firmly out at 90 degrees from surface.

Then continue round till it's free, they are pretty robust tbh

needlessly complicated

the trick is in the handle that you use to pull the boot down
there is a tiny flap inside it which gives you access to a screw
remove the screw and it gives you access to remove the rather rigid clips
that hold the entire piece

you also need to remove the brolly handle and warning triangle
and also the cable guides for the rear lid

ive managed this and released the 4 screws which hold the rear piece which holds the rear camera
i just need to figure out how the lock mechanism attached to the trim piece
once i can remove this i can re-install the new parts and code

cheers mate
any ideas how the rear lock removes from the trim del ?

there is a screw which holds the plastic cover at the back but i have removed this , i cannot see anything else holding it

On the d3 there was two torx screws holding it on, one either side, they were black so may be difficult to see. Once they were out it just slid out of the hole.

well that was interesting
the lock fits into the trim which holds the number plate lights
to remove it you have to twist it 90 degrees as it has a locking interferance part
which you cant see

ive taken plenty of photos
