Weight obsession

I got a new toy, a digital scale with accuracy of 100g. So naturally I put it to good use. Here is a start.
Avus 18" wheel + Dunlop SP9000 245/45 = 24.2kg A6 dynamic 18" wheel + Pilot Super Sport = 22.3kg S8 Recaro seat = 34.4kg Audi TT Recaro seat = 22.4kg If anyone wants anything else weighed (that doesnt require dismantling the car ;) ) let me know. http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367154445 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367154445 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367154445 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367154445 |

More fun with weights.
Rear sun shade / curtain = 3.65kg Recaro seat electric base = 8.35kg http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367701972 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1367701972 |
Hi Goran I've found a website that may interest you! there are more far more complicated program's about, but this one seems spot on and is a useful for seeing the difference of more power or less weight.

Here is the weight of my car on the scales, 1859 kg 1/4 of petrol empty lpg tank the lpg system only adds about 30kg to the car.

Thanks +++
Mine was 1865kg according to service booklet, and local weight bridge. I think its about 1843kg now. Mine has a tow bar that probably weighs a lot. I did a 6.27s to 60mph with the 1810kg curb weight (-33kg because 1/2 tank). The little program is a little optimistic at 5.5s. Probably because auto boxes transfer less power to the wheels. A S4, with manual gearbox will do 5.0s to 60 with the best professional driver, and about 5.2s with a good 'normal' driver. Curb weight 1660kg. So the program seems to be set up for manual boxes. |
Optermistic maybe maybe not those time should be achievable with a car of that power to weight. With the car optermised for drag racing eg a high stall torque converter and optermised gearing 1234 all closer so the car launches harder.
You know the weight of your car do you know it's still got all its power? I once did 3 runs at York drag strip in my friends lotus and beat him by 1/2 a second and I wasn't happy with any of the runs! They all had faults. Here is a link to some more professional program's with every detail about the car http://performancetrends.com/Drag_Racing.htm |

Nice car! love the titanium.
Car and Drivr did a 5.8s to 60mph with a facelift Auto 2001 S8. I doubt anyone can do better with a stock car. Road and Track only managed 6.3s The problem with those calculators is that 0-60 is a very complicated equation and a lot more factors are involved. Torquestats acknowledge this in the text at the bottom. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-revi...s/2001-audi-s8 To demonstrate, just try this with torquestats, put any elecric car hp and weight into that website and it will never give the right answer, because the torque curve of a electric motor is so different. A Tesla S performance does 0-60 in 4.0s or 3.9s as tested, 420hp, weighs 2100kg without driver. According to torquestats it sould do it in 5.8s Motor Trend got a B6 S4 manual to 60mph in 4.99s, 339hp, 1660kg. Torquestats says 5.2s. However, on Audiworld most average S4 drivers are getting around 5.2s to 5.3s Road and Track got a B7 RS4 to 60mph in 4.5s, 414hp, 1680kg. Torquestats says 4.8s. So it seems optimistic for autos, pessimistic for manuals, or set up for average manual driver. And only for petrol cars. Drag Racing analyzer looks good though, lots of detail, thanks +++ |

Yes I agree it won't work with electic or diesel cars but as its American should favour autos and if the car is set up just for drag racing you should be very close to those times. Not many cars are quicker than the predidictid times I can only think of 2 that may be quicker Nissan GTR and the new S8 the brilliant gearboxes in both cars helps.
Here's a picture of my car fully dressed now you see why my forum name is A wolf in Sheeps clothes! |
Brilliant! +++
