D2 factory Towbar
Right this weekend we went to get steves drag car Nr 200 miles away. Went to hook up the trailer, where we found the connections wont match. Audi seem to have a 12pin female, where the trailer had a 7pins. Never thought of looking or checking before hand. So we hadto drive all the way back with no rear lights :tuttut: no other option. Lucky as there wasnt many left or rights, plus it was daylight.
Steve wants to change it to 7 pin plug, i want to keep it all as Audi supplyed. Ive done a bit of looking, can find 7 to 12 pin converters. Cant find one with a 12 pin plug, i can push into our socket tho. Tryed caravan shops today, no luck tho. |
Its a 13 pin 'european' connector, its standard fit to all the UK Audi A8 models.
It combines all the pins for the normal twin 7 pin connectors in one. You get a european 13 pin to regular twin 7 pin connectors. Audi do one, but I bet its way cheaper to get one from somewhere else +++ This looks like the sort of thing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/13-pin-2-x-7-p...item5889537e2c |
The one that ian just showed is the same as the one i use but for some reason it does not charge the batteries in the caravan or run the fridge. All works fine when i use my works minibus but not when i use the audi.

Yeah. I've seen this before. The A8 doesnt generate the charging voltage on the right pin for fridges.... Annoying huh ?
It doesnt matter if you use a pukka Audi lead, its just not connected on the car... +++ |
thanks for help. Also just found this. Will this do?
http://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-WE...item1e63e21f02 As we only need lights |
Looks like it might do the job, but its a bit bulky... If it fits it might be ok? for £6 though, worth a try...

found somthing smaller. As you said for the price its worth a try.
