Wanted - D2 menu system black round cap
The round cap that you twist to select items on the menu, like setting the clock and and various other menu choices, mine has cracked and i end up pulling it off if i want to select anything, its a black round cap (dam careless previous owners!)
Be really helpful to fix this mine has cracked so doeesn't grip the selector +++ |
I had the same problem, ended up using a random knob that fitted, from some old radio or hi-fi kit I think.

This is what my knob looks like (down Mike!):
|
As mine was broken, I opted for the complete black box with an intact button.
Our sponsors didn't have one at the time so I searched eBay and someone was breaking a car and they had one available with the knob attached - as per original. They weren't advertising it, they were just advertising that they were breaking an A8 so I sent them a message and a photo and said do you have one. And they did. I didn't like the idea of just trying to locate a button and glueing it on as I thought it would only be a matter of time before it unglued itself. Mine cost me £20, like this one on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-AUDI...item5909ec70c5 (I did a search on eBay for the part number and our sponsor didn't come up in the search results but this doesn't necessarily mean that they don't have one). |
Maplins do knobs like that.
Might be a good time to stock up because they are having a closing down sale. |
The challenge I found was getting one to fit the spindle, which is the usual d-shape i.e. round but with a flat face to provide rotational grip. It wasn't a common size.

thanks for your help guys i have made an offer on an ebay listing so we will see what happens part number is very useful as well +++

Unfortunatley its in worse state the mine the round cap just falls straight off and peering inside looks to be broken up with less of a grip than my current one, with a play i can get my one working, but i was hoping this would be fix the issue  :( i have requested a refund |

+1 for Maplin or RS Components (better selection)
www.rswww.com You can get a black knob with a small screw on one side which would tighten on the flat face to give rotational grip. Only a couple of ££ incl shipping |

The problem with a screw fixing is getting access to tighten it. You need a tiny screwdriver or an angled one.

Just looked at mine again, it does actually have a grub screw in it but is just a push fit.
IIRC I just adjusted the screw in tiny increments until it pushed onto the spindle securely. T'was long ago now.... |
Sounds like I got a decent deal with Mr Blobby's knob then;) Happy to sell it for the bargain price of £1500 if anyone wants it:ROFL:
